Wimbush picks up CoSIDA Academic All-District Honor

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman senior running back Antonio Wimbush (Kingsland, Ga.) has been lauded for his efforts on the field and in the class room by the College Sports Information Director's Of America.

Wimbush has garnered Academic All-District honors for the first time in his career.  He now moves on to the All-America ballot.  Wimbush is Carson-Newman's eighth academic all-district honoree in the last four years.

In the class room, the business major carries a 3.50 GPA.

On the field, Wimbush has turned in one of the best careers running the ball in Carson-Newman history.

Antonio Wimbush (Kingsland, Ga.) became the fourth member of Carson-Newman's 3,500-yard rushing club against Mars Hill. He is third all-time in rushing yards with 3,621. Wimbush is 421 yards away from second and Kennth Tyson, and 535 yards away from first and Robert Thomas.

Wimbush's next 100-yard performance would give him 16 for his career, putting him within one of Brandon Baker and Kenneth Tyson for the second most all-time. A touchdown would make Wimbush the sixth player in school history with 40 career rushing scores. It would also tie him with Tyron Douglas for sixth all-time.

Wimbush is looking to join Jared Dillingham and Randall Freeman as C-N running backs with Academic All-America status.  Wimbush could be the program's ninth Academic All-American overall.

Chris Horton (1993 and 1994), Keith Ackard (1999 and 2000), Curt Duncan (2012), Randall Freeman (2014), Kooper Davis (2016) and Jared Dillingham (2017) all have represented the Eagles in the past.
