JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman head football coach Mike Clowney has announced the signing of 42 student athletes who will join the Carson-Newman football program in the fall of 2020.

Carson-Newman's 2020 signing class is comprised of players from six states.  Tennessee is the top producer with 20 signees. Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia follow suit with 12, four and three, respectively. 

Players are listed in the order in which their commitments are received.

HIGH SCHOOL: Wilcox was a letterman at Glynn Academy under Rocky Hidalgo. He was tabbed a first-team All-Region 2-6A offensive lineman in 2019 when his team made it to the second round of the state tournament.

PERSONAL: The son of Andre Wilcox, he plans to study at Carson-Newman.

Darius Williams – 6-1 – 177 – DB – Atlanta, Ga. – Carver Early College

HIGH SCHOOL: Playing on a Panther team coached by Darren Myles, Williams led the team in forced fumbles. He was a first-team All-Region selection and was deemed the MIP on his team. Away from football, he also lettered in track.

PERSONAL: The son of Kawanike Williams, he intends to study sports medicine at Carson-Newman. He was a member of the Beta Club during his high school career.

Isaiah Washington – 6-2 – 268 – DL – Atlanta, Ga. – Frederick Douglas - @KW57_

HIGH SCHOOL: In his four years with the Astros, Washington amassed 271 total tackles with 104 coming in his senior year alone. Nearly half of his 35.5 career sacks came during his senior campaign, reaching the quarterback 13.5 times. He was a three-time defensive lineman of the year and picked up first-team All-Region and All-State honors along the way. He played on an Astros team that made it past the state semifinals for the first time since 1975.

PERSONAL: The son of TiQuana Washington and Patrick Hollis, he plans to major in physical education at Carson-Newman.

Curtis Lowe – 6-1 – 215 – ATH – Mountain City, Tenn. – Johnson County - @Lowecurtis1

HIGH SCHOOL: Lowe accounted for four touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions with the Longhorns, reaching the quarterback for 15 sacks, three of those coming in a single game. In his senior season alone, he rushed for 932 yards, adding on 213 defensive tackles. Playing under Don Kerley, he was tabbed an All-Conference first team player in 2018 and 20019 and competed in the FCA All-Star Game. He had a hand in the Tomahawks winning back-to-back conference championships in 2017 and 2018.

PERSONAL: The son of Yvette and Shawn Lowe, he intends to study computer science at Carson-Newman.

Kendez Griffin – 6-2 – 230 – DL - Adairsville, Ga. – Calhoun - @kendez63

HIGH SCHOOL: Griffin recorded 22 tackles in his career with 15 solo tackles and four assists. He brought in four sacks with four tackles for loss and a pair of fumble recoveries. A second-team All-Region player, he was a part of the 2017 State Championship Yellow Jacket squad. He was also an honor team captain for the unit.

PERSONAL: The son of Robin and Curtis Griffin, he is still undecided on a major at Carson-Newman.

Jacorey Long – 6-2 – 225 – DL -  Atlanta, Ga. – Booker T. Washington - @jacoreylong

HIGH SCHOOL: Long recorded five sacks with the Bulldogs along with 12 tackles for loss and 38 tackles. Playing under the tutelage of Derrick Avery, he was a two-time First-Team All-Region player, All-Star team selection in 2019 and was tabbed the best defensive lineman in 2019. His high school career was capped with a trip to the first round of the state playoffs in 2019. He was also on the track and field, wrestling and tennis teams.

PERSONAL: The son of Elicea Long, he intends to pursue a degree in nursing at Carson-Newman. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club in high school.

Cody Sullivan – 6-4 – 270 – OL – Pelzer, S.C. – Woodmont - @ Cody_WHS62

HIGH SCHOOL: In his time with the Wildcats, Sullivan was a back-to-back All-Region selection in 2018 and 2019. Aside from football, he was also a part of the wrestling team, garnering All-Region honors with that squad, as well.

PERSONAL: The son of Tabitha and Greg Sullivan, he plans to study sports medicine at Carson-Newman.

TJ Boone – 6-2 – 300 – OL – Clinton, N.C.  – Clinton – Allan Hancock JC - @bigboysmooth

ALLAN HANCOCK: Boone was an All-Conference Second Team selection in 2018 for the Bulldogs.

HIGH SCHOOL: A three-sport athlete at Clinton High School in football, baseball and track, Boone accumulated 75 total tackles in his senior campaign, averaging 6.4 tackles per game that season. He brought in All-State, All-Region and All-Area honors while also being receiving the All-Conference Sportsmanship award, State Championship MVP and Defensive MVP. Boone was a member of a Darkhorses' group that won three-straight conference championships, two All-County titles and an All-State trophy.

PERSONAL: The son of Tarsha and Terrell Boone, he plans to pursue a business degree at Carson-Newman.

Troy Davis – 6-1 – 180 – QB – Knoxville, Tenn. – Gibbs - @troydavisjr14

HIGH SCHOOL: In his career at Gibbs, Davis racked up 1,379 rushing yards with 18 touchdowns while passing for 319 yards with five trips to the endzone through the air. Named the Offensive Back of the Year for the Eagles, he was also tabbed an All-Region selection for Region 2 5A, an All-Knox County Team pick and an All-State player for the Tennessee Football Coaches Association. Davis was a dual-sport athlete in high school, playing football and basketball.

PERSONAL: The son of Rachel Davis, he intends to study criminology at Carson-Newman.

Tanner Atkins – 6-1 – 195 – ATH - White Pine, Tenn. – Jefferson County - @tanneratkins7

HIGH SCHOOL: A dual-sport athlete in football and baseball at Jefferson County, Atkins accounted for over 1,900 yards and 18 touchdowns in his senior year alone. He was a two-time All-Region player for the Patriots while also picking up a pair of All-Lakeway Team and Offensive Player of the Year laurels.

PERSONAL: The son of Tracey Talley, he intends to study education at Carson-Newman. He was the Junior Student of the Year at Jefferson County, the AP English Student of the Year and All-A Honor Roll in every year. His cousin Brittany Hefner played softball at Carson-Newman.

Sawyer White – 6-0 – 220 – LS - Chattanooga, Tenn. – Chattanooga Christian - @sawyerwhite5454

HIGH SCHOOL: White saw starting time at center as a sophomore for the Chargers. During his career, he picked up All-Region Honorable Mention honors along with the team's Lineman and Special Teams awards. He was also on the wrestling team at Chattanooga Christian.

PERSONAL: The son of Jay and Lori White, he intends to study health science at Carson-Newman. His brother, Jackson, is former Eagle.

Javan McCulley – 5-10 – 270 – DL - Jacksboro, Tenn. – Campbell County - @javanmcculley

HIGH SCHOOL: In 2019, McCulley accounted for 60 tackles with a team-leading 18 tackles for loss and three sacks. He went back-to-back-to-back for All-Region accolades during his final three years with the Cougars.

PERSONAL: The son of Emily and Danny McCulley, he plans to major in exercise science with an emphasis in coaching and fitness.

Will Miller – 6-0 – 205 – LS – Athens, Tenn. – McMinn County - @Will_Miller12

HIGH SCHOOL: Meyer made 45 tackles with four sacks, adding on a safety and interception. In 2019, he was a first-team All-District and All-Area teams in 2019. In his senior year, he was honored as the permanent captain and Cherokee Award.

PERSONAL: The son of Kim and Doug Miller, he intends to study engineering at Carson-Newman. He was on the A/B Honor Roll in 2016 and 2017.

Tyler McCloud - 6-2 – 225 – TE – Bristol, Va. – John S. Battle

HIGH SCHOOL: McCloud  tallied 141 tackles in his career with the Trojans as a defensive end. On the offensive side of the ball, he grabbed 19 receptions in a single season for 306 yards. He received All-District and All-Region accolades in 2018 at defensive end and won the same honors in 2019 as a tight end. Under the tutelage of coach Bradley Ricker, he was deemed the 2018 All-District Defensive Line Lineman of the Year. A four-sport athlete at John S. Battle, he was also on the basketball, baseball and track and field teams.

PERSONAL: The son of Ashley and Greg Smith, he plans to study accounting at Carson-Newman.

Bryce Collins – 6-3 – 205 – P - Clinton, Tenn. – Clinton - @Bryceac1Collins

HIGH SCHOOL: A two-time All-Region player, Collins averaged 36.03 yards per punt in his 29 attempts, spanning a total of 984 yards. His longest punt traveled 54 yards while landing six inside the 20. He was a 2019 Murphy Fair Preseason All-State selection, Ray Guy Top Prospect  Award recipient, 2019 Specialist of the Year and the 2019 Region 3 5A Punter of the Year.

PERSONAL: The son of Rodney and Michele Collins, he intends to pursue a degree in nursing at Carson-Newman.

Joey Dales – 6-0 – 185 – K – Bluefield, Va. – Graham - @kingjoey_20

HIGH SCHOOL: Dales went 12-of-17 on his career field goals at Graham, going 133-of-1563 on extra point attempts to close his career with 253 total points. He served a team captain for the GMen in 2020, starting as the punter, kicker and a wide receiver. Lined up as a receiver, he accounted for 14 touchdowns. Dales helped Graham to a 2A State Football Championship in 2018 and a 2A State Football semifinal in 2018. He was also a member of the basketball, soccer and tennis teams in high school, winning the Southwest District's Player of the Year for tennis in 2019.

PERSONAL: The son of Drs. Kay and Joe Dales, he plans to study health at Carson-Newman. Dales was a member of DECA, Future Business Leaders of America, Forever Golden and the president of the Writer's Society in high school.

Jaheim Wilson – 6-1 – 290 – DL - Athens, Ga. – Cedar Shoals - @jaheimwilson30

HIGH SCHOOL: Wilson collected 300 career tackles with 16 career sacks. He recorded 44 tackles for loss with four fumble recoveries and eight forced fumbles. He made 10 pass deflections while making one interception in his career. A first-team All-Region selection for the Jaguards, Wilson was a two-time All-State Honorable Mention pick and won the Golden Helmet Award twice. Away from football, he also played basketball, wrestling, soccer and was on the track and field team.

PERSONAL: The son of Kawmina Wilson and Rodney Dallis, he intends to study sports management at Carson-Newman. He won the student athlete award at Cedar Shoals.

Nicholas Kastner – 6-0 – 215 – LB - Bluefield, Va. – Graham - @NickKastner_

HIGH SCHOOL: In his high school career, Kastner logged over 500 tackles, eight interceptions and 15 forced fumbles. He was a three-year varsity starter for G-Men team that won three district championships, two regional titles and a state championship. He racked up a slew of awards for Graham, including three-straight first-team All-District accolades, second-team All-Conference in 2017, back-to-back first-team All-Conference selections in the years following, first-team All-State in 2019 and second-team All-State in 2019.He also played basketball for the G-Men.

PERSONAL: The son of Christi and Ron Sagady and Michael and Tasha Kastner, he plans to study pharmacy at Carson-Newman. He maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his high school career while also being a member of the Beta Club.

Tydricus Hellams – 6-1 – 165 – WR – Greenville, S.C. – Greenville – Independence Community College - @ty_hellams

HIGH SCHOOL: Hellams tallied more than 1,000 yards receiving as a junior and senior.  He was a second team all-state selection and a two-time all-region choice at wide out.  He was a team captain and helped Greenville to a state title.

PERSONAL: The son of Deirdre Butler. He plans to study business at Carson-Newman.

Aeneas Halouma – 6-0 – 285 – OL – Knoxville, Tenn. – Halls - @aeneas_73

HIGH SCHOOL: Halouma starred for Scott Cummings at Halls where he averaged three pancakes a game as a member of the offensive line.  He was the Region 2-55A Offensive Lineman of the Year and a first team All-Knox County selection. He helped Halls to a regional title. 

PERSONAL: The son of Oliver Halouma and Stephanie Cobb, he plans to study biology at Carosn-Newman.

 

Jackson Ward –  5-10 – 175 – DB - Forest Park, Ga. - Banneker - @jward3_

HIGH SCHOOL: Ward tallied 30 tackles during his career with a trio of interceptions and 10 pass break ups. He was recognized by his Trojan teammates with the Best Defensive Back award and Most Improved.

PERSONAL: The son of Raven and La'Mon Ward, he intends to study communications at Carson-Newman. He made A&B Honor Roll during his high school career.

Jacob Greene – 6-1 – 255 – OL - Morristown, Tenn. – Morristown West

HIGH SCHOOL: Greene was an All-Conference Honorable Mention pick during his time with the Trojans. As team captain for a pair of seasons, he led the offensive line in total pancakes and 4.5 pancakes per game. He was a part of the Team Leadership Group, helping the team to average over 1,000 yards rushing.

PERSONAL: The son of Kevin and LaTasha Greene, he plans to major in education at Carson-Newman. He was a member of the Beta Club and was a Trojan Scholar for three years in his career. 

Levi Myers – 6-0 – 180 – LB - Greeneville, Tenn. – South Greene - @levi_myers10

HIGH SCHOOL: Myers was a four-time first-team All-Conference player for the Rebels, also bringing in two Regional Offensive Player of the Year awards and three All-Greene County selections. He was an All-State pick in 2019 from the Tennessee Football Coaches Association and a TSSWA All-State Nominee. He stands as the winningest quarterback in school history. During his career, he was on the first team from Greene County to ever advance to the third round of the playoffs. He was also a member of the track and basketball teams at South Greene. On the court, he was a tournament MVP, All-Conference pick and won the 100 percent award.

PERSONAL: The son of Bart and Miranda Myers, he intends to study business at Carson-Newman. He was a member of the National Honor Society at South Greene, leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served as the Student Council Class President for two years.

Jonathan Rathman – 6-0 – 230 – OL - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. – Soddy Daisy

HIGH SCHOOL: Ruthman was a 5A All-Region selection for the Trojans. In his senior season, he collected 47 total tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack and a pair of fumble recoveries. He was on a Trojans team that won Region titles in 2018 and 2019.

PERSONAL: The son of Ken and Joy Rathman, he plans to pursue a mathematics teaching degree.

Brayden Pierce – 6-3 – 290 – OL - Greenback, Tenn. – William Blount - @braydenpierce64

HIGH SCHOOL: Pierce led William Blount in offensive pancakes, grading at 85-percent for overall blocking. He was a two-time All-District pick for the Governors, a three time All-Region pick and saw his team make it to the first round of the state playoffs. Away from the field, Pierce was also a member of the track and field team.

PERSONAL: The son of Sarah Pierce, he plans to study business at Carson-Newman. He was a member of the Beta Club in high school.

Mason Brang – 6-2 -200 – QB - Knoxville, Tenn. – South Doyle - @masonbrang

HIGH SCHOOL: Brang passed for a team-leading 5,178 yards throughout his career, sending 62 passes to the end zone. He rushed for over 700 yards throughout his career with 19 career touchdowns. The 2018 Region 2-5A Offensive Player of the Year, he also picked up three Fox Toyota Player of the Week honors throughout his career with three first-team All-Region accolades and two Prep Extra Player of the Week nods. He was a part of a Cherokees team that won the Region 2-5A Regular Season title in 2019 while leading the region in offense in all four years of his career.

PERSONAL: The son of Todd and Stephanie Brang, he plans to pursue a business degree at Carson-Newman. He was a member of the National Honors Society at South Doyle with a 4.15 GPA. His grandfather played football at Carson-Newman as a defensive back.

Duerell Bard – 6-0 -225 – LB - Lexington, Tenn. – Lexington - @duerellbard20

HIGH SCHOOL: Bard led the Tigers in tackles during his junior year, on his way to totaling nearly 250 tackles and 16 touchdowns in his career. He was a two-time first-team All-Region player and a Blue-Grey All-American. He played on a Lexington squad that won a region title. He also played baseball and basketball for the Tigers.

PERSONAL: The son of Shalonda Moore-Bard and Rodney Bard, he intends to study occupational therapy at Carson-Newman. He was a member of the Beta Club at Lexington and represented his school at Tennessee Boys State.

James Lucy – 6-4 – 325 – OL - Union City, Tenn. – Obion County Central

HIGH SCHOOL: A product of Obion County Central, Lucy was a member of the West Tennessee All Star Team.  While his school didn't count pancakes, he had a lot of them. 

PERSONAL: The son of Jenny and Robert Lucy. He plans to study business at Carson-Newman.

Neyland Fendley – 6-0 – 265 – OL – Knoxville, Tenn. – Karns - @neyland88

HIGH SCHOOL: During his senior season, Fendley accounted for 37 pancakes on the offensive side of the ball and 39 defensive tackles. He was a back-to-back All-Region selection and was a 2019 All-Knox County team pick. In 2019, he also picked up the Iron Man and Captain Awards. He was a member of the first Beavers team to defeat Fulton High School in Karns' program history.

PERSONAL: The son of Suzanne McGowan and Hunter Fendley, he plans to study pre-engineering at Carson-Newman. His father is a former Carson-Newman football player.

Jah'Quavis Davis – 5-8 – 173 – DB - Ruskin, Fla. - Manatee - @quadavis21

HIGH SCHOOL: Davis brought in 83 tackles throughout his career with three interceptions for Hurricanes, deflecting eight passes, blocking a pair of kicks and forcing a fumble. A two-time Player of the Week, he was a part of a Manatee side that won the 7A District Championship and was the 7A Regional Runner-Up, leading the area in interceptions. He was a three-sport athlete with the Hurricanes, lettering in wrestling and track.

PERSONAL: The son of Shenika Ray and Elijah Davis Jr., he plans to study pre-dentistry at Carson-Newman. His brother, Elijah, is also a member of the football team. He made honor roll three years in a row at Manatee.

Christian Erwin – 5-10 – 165 – K – York, S.C. – Clover - @ChristianErwin0

HIGH SCHOOL: Erwin accounted for 96 points for the Eagles during his career. He holds the school record for the longest field goal at 45 yards. He sent out 95 kickoffs for 6,034 yards, averaging 60.3 yards per kick, kicking for touchbacks nearly 80-percent of the time. He was the MVP for Special Teams while also receiving Allstar Blitz honors and being tabbed the Strongest Pound-for-Pound student on campus. He was a part of an Eagles' squad that won the region championship.

PERSONAL: The son of Jeff and Anita Erwin, he plans to study Computer Science at Carson-Newman. He was a Junior Marshall at Clover while holding the top GPA on the roster at 4.92.

Jalyn Williams – 5-9 – 170 – RB – Swainsboro, Ga. – Swainsboro - ETSU - @5_jkw

EAST TENNESSEE STATE: Played in two games as a redshirt-freshman with the Buccaneers, making three rush attempts for 12 yards.

HIGH SCHOOL: Williams was a dual-sport athlete at Swainsboro, playing football and running track. He was a three-year letterman under Scott Roberts. He ran for 1,500 yards in his career with the Tigers and picked up 2017 Offensive Player of the Year honors along the way.

PERSONAL: The son of Lawanda Gunn and Brian Williams, he plans to study exercise science at Carson-Newman.

Kendall Williams – 5-11 – 180 – DB – Winston-Salem, N.C. – West Forsyth - @Williams_era06

HIGH SCHOOL: A two-sport athlete in football and track, Williams recorded four interceptions with 22 pass break ups throughout his career. He added onto his stat sheet with a pair of forced fumbles, a pick six and a fumble recovery for a score. He took down 48 solo tackles with two tackles for loss. The All-Conference and All-Northwest selection led the Titans in interceptions.

PERSONAL: The son of Keia Smith and Shelton Williams, he plans to study Sports Medicine at Carson-Newman.

Tyrell Ragland – 6-2 – 305 – OL - Knoxville, Tenn. – West - @tyrell_ragland

HIGH SCHOOL: Ragland placed a key role in West's appearance in the state semifinals during his senior season. He paved the way for the Rebels offence to record 150 to 200 yards a game. A three-time All State 5A team selection, Ragland was a three-tine first-team All-Region selection in high school. He won team Player of the Game three times and made it to the All-Star team. He helped the Rebels to the state semifinal during his year on the squaf.

PERSONAL: The son of Keiaundria Ragland, he plans to pursue a degree in education at Carson-Newman. He was named the Knox County Student of the Week while in high school.

Corey Climpson – 6-1 – 268 – DL - Jonesboro, Ga. – Mundy's Mill - @coreyclimpson50

HIGH SCHOOL: Climpson closed his career with the Tigers with 136 tackles, 18 sacks and five forced fumbles. He saw time in Georgia vs. Florida All-Star game where he recorded a sack. He was voted Mundy's Mill's Defensive Lineman of the Year while receiving three Player of the Game honors and five Defensive Player of the Game accolades.

PERSONAL: The son of Quinetta and Corey Climpson, he plans to study exercise science at Carson-Newman.

James Baker IV – 6-2 – 180 – ATH – Memphis, Tenn. – White Station - @ Jim1Baker

HIGH SCHOOL: Throughout his career with the Spartans, Baker tallied 1,156 yards on 76 receptions, finding the end zone 15 times. He recorded 25 solo tackles with 22 assist tackles and seven interceptions.

PERSONAL: The son of Shantorra and James Baker III, he plans to study broadcast journalism at Carson-Newman.

Neryan Forston – 6-0 – 205 – LB - Tallahassee, Fla. – Lincoln - @neryan_forston

HIGH SCHOOL: Forston totaled 94 tackles with five sacks in his career at Lincoln. He was selected the All-Big Bend first team while serving as the captain for the Trojans.

PERSONAL: The son of Aprell and Otis Forston, he plans to study business at Carson-Newman.

Jackson Martin – 5-10 – 170 – ATH – Ringgold, Ga. – Heritage - @jacksonm_1

HIGH SCHOOL:  A two-way player for EK Slaughter at Heritage High School.  He tallied 22 tackles as a defensive back and averaged 8.0 yards per catch as a receiver.  He was a Georgia Elite Classic All Star.  He  was an all-region  choice and a member of Heritage's regional runner up team. 

PERSONAL: The son of Russell and Tammy Martin.  He was a member of the honor roll and an all-academic team selection.

Frank Lee – 6-2 – 225 – LB - Orangeburg, S.C. – Orangeburg Wilkinson – Spartanburg Methodist - @frank_89932

HIGH SCHOOL: Lee was All-Conference football player in 2018 and 2019 for the Bruins, playing with a squad that took the region runner-up once in his career. Off the field, he found success on the basketball court, as well, tallying All-Conference, MVP and All-State honors multiple times.

PERSONAL: The son of Tishone Corbitt and Frank Lee III, he plans to study engineering at Carson-Newman. He was a member of the National Honor Society and made the Principals List and Honor Roll in high school.

Colt Sinor – 6-3 – 305 – OL - Chattanooga, Tenn. – Chattanooga Christian - @coltsinor

HIGH SCHOOL: An All-Region, preseason All-State and Blue-Grey All-American player for the Chargers, Sinor accounted for 35 pancake blocks during his senior season. He played three other sports at Chattanooga Christian including baseball, basketball and threw shotput for the track team.

PERSONAL: The son of Tim and Tammy Sinor, he is currently undecided on a major at Carson-Newman.

Zuriel Jimpson – 6-0 – 185 – DB  Atlanta, Ga. – Westlake - @zurielJ_2020

HIGH SCHOOL: Jimpson comes to Carson-Newman after playing for Bobby May at Westlake High School.  He led the Lions secondary in tackles as a senior.  Jimpson was named first team all-region at the conclusion of his senior year.  He also ran track and helped the Lions to a state championship for that program in 2017. 

PERSONAL: The son La'Shaunda Bullard Jimpson.  He plans to study either graphic design, computer science or engineering at Carson-Newman.

Garrett Baughman – 6-1 – 295 – OL – Macon, Ga. – Jones County - @gbaughman97

HIGH SCHOOL: Baughman was a dual-sport athlete in high school, playing football and baseball. He logged 44 pancakes during his time with the Greyhounds. Under the direction of Mike Chastain, he reeled in first-team All-Region and All-State Honors. During his career, the Greyhounds won a region title and made an appearance in the state semifinals.

PERSONAL: The son of Amber and Jamie Baughman, he plans to pursue an education degree at Carson-Newman.
