Forster, Headrick and Mynatt receive All-SAC accolades

ROCK HILL, S.C. Three Eagles represent No. 14/15 Carson-Newman on the All-South Atlantic Conference lists, as announced by the league on Friday.

Tom Forster (Northamptonshire, England) was named a first-team selection, Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) landed on the second team while Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) made his All-Conference debut as an Honorable Mention.

Thanks to the latest additions, C-N extends its All-Conference section total to 42 since 1992. The Orange and Blue have tallied 24 first-teamers, 16 on the second and two honorable mentions. This is the sixth time that three Eagles have garnered All-SAC laurels in a season, the third occurrence in four seasons.

Forster has been named a first-team selection in all three years of his career. In the latest Golfstat player rankings, he was ranked sixth in the nation.

The junior leads the team with a 70.8 scoring average through 22 rounds this season. He has reeled in six top-10 finishes on the season including three within the top-five. He won the Southern Tide Classic with a 12-under three-round total, giving him his third career win. His 202 total in the event marked a new career-low and tied for the second-lowest 54-hole round score in SAC history.

Forster has made the starting lineup in every event this season, holding the top spot in seven tournaments. He carded a team-low round of 67 three times.

"It feels really good to be putting in the work and it showing off eventually," Forster said. "Like, it means a lot that you can put in the work all year round and then you do get something at the end of it to show that you've played good golf all year round."

On the program record lists, he currently holds the best career scoring average (71.80), career won-lost percentage (.864) and possesses the top season scoring average (70.8) and win-loss percentage (.936) in this season alone.

Headrick has also been an All-SAC selection every year he has been at Mossy Creek. He is just the second Eagle in team history to be given a conference accolade annually, the other being Tanner Davis from 2003-06. This is his third-straight year of being a second-team selection.

The senior is second in terms of the scoring average on the team at 73.5. That scoring clip landed him at 121st on Golfstat's national player rankings this week.

Starting in all eight tournaments this year, Headrick has brought in two top-five finishes. His best outing on the season was a tie for fourth at the Cougar Invitational presented by Aflac. He was five-under in the event thanks to two rounds of 69, his lowest round scores of the season.

Mynatt is one of just two Eagles in program history to land on the Honorable Mention list since the league started the annual award category in 2014. The last Eagle named to the unit was Headrick in 2016, also as a freshman.

Like his C-N counterparts on the All-SAC lists, Mynatt has also started in every event this season for Randy Wylie's group. In his first season, he has compiled a 74.0 scoring average through 22 rounds of play. He has landed in the top-20 of three events with one of those finishing coming in the top 10.

His best outing on the season was a two-under performance at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate where he shot a 214 that was good enough for 10th-place. His lowest round score on the year thus far was a 69 in the third round of the Aflac/Cougar Invitational.

"It feels good to have them boys (on the All-SAC List) because they're playing good golf all year round, as well," Forster said. "They're very consistent and they're both great golfers. Everyone on the team is so everyone is pushing each other and it's good to see their work, as well, is getting shown in their awards."

Carson-Newman heads to the SAC Championship this week, looking to win a third-straight conference title. The three-day tournament begins on Sunday at the Camden Country Club.
