Eagles struggle in first round, improve in second in shortened day at Tennessee River Rumble

Round One Results

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. - After struggling in the first round, the Carson-Newman men's golf team rebounded in the second round, before darkness halted the first day of the Tennessee River Rumble on Monday, Mar. 28.

The Eagles shot a 10-over 298 in the first round before shooting even-par as a team through thirteen holes in the second round. The team moved up from eleventh in the first round to a tie for sixth with Lee at current standing. Belmont Abbey sits at first place, currently holding a four stroke lead after thirteen holes in the second round at seven-under par.

"We did not play our best this morning," says Director of Golf Randy Wylie. "Fortunately for us, Jake Mynatt shot a nice two-under 70. Having to start late due to frost and end early due to darkness is frustrating, especially since we were just starting to move up the leaderboard. Hopefully we finish the second round strong tomorrow morning and then shoot a strong final round to give us a chance at the championship."

Carson-Newman holds the second-best score on par fives, shooting three-under and an average score of 4.85. C-N leads the field with the most eagles, with Mynatt, Alex Hodge and Jackson Tyler recording one each in the first two rounds.

Mynatt shot a two-under 70 in the first round, and sits in a tie for seventh after shooting an even par 51 through thirteen holes in the second round. Mynatt has the second best score of the field on par fives, shooting four-under with an average score of 4.25. He also recorded 21 pars through 31 total holes.

Jonathan Nielsen sits tied for 27th in the second round. Nielsen shot a two-over 74 in the opening round and has shot a one-over 53 through thirteen holes in round two.

Hodge currently sits tied for 48th in the second round. After shooting a two-over 74 in the first round, the Knoxville native has shot a four-over 56 through thirteen holes.

Tyler rounds out the scoring for the Eagles, sitting tied for 56th. After shooting a nine-over 81 to start the day, Tyler recovered nicely, and is currently shooting a two-under 49 through thirteen holes.

Elliot MacGregor is tied for 72nd at current standing. The freshman shot an eight-over 80 in the first round, and is currently shooting a one-over 53 through thirteen holes in the second round.

Individually, Will Collins sits tied for 33rd after shooting a six-over 78 in the first round and is shooting a two-under 42 through just eleven holes in the second round.

The second round will resume tomorrow at 9:00 AM with the players starting from their next hole based on where they finished before the round was suspended. The players will then roll straight into the final round. Fans can follow along with live results here.
