Mynatt records top-10 finish as Eagles finish fifth at Tennessee River Rumble

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. - Jake Mynatt recorded his third top-ten finish of the season as the no. 2/2 Carson-Newman men's golf team finished fifth at the Tennessee River Rumble.

Mynatt finished his second round this morning, shooting a one-over 73, before rebounding with a final round score of a two-under 70, finishing the tournament tied for sixth with a three-under score of 213. The Knoxville native finished with the best scores on par fives, shooting seven-under with an average score of 4.42. He also was one of just 16 competitors to record an eagle and carded twelve birdies in three rounds.

As a team, the Eagles finished fifth overall. C-N shot twelve-over on the week, finishing above no. 2/3 USC-Aiken by one stroke and also ahead of SAC foes Queens, Newberry, Coker, Tusculum, Lenoir-Rhyne, Anderson and Wingate. Host Lincoln Memorial won the team championship, shooting a two-under 862 in three rounds.

Carson-Newman finished the second round with a 292 before shooting a final round two-under score of 286. As a team, the Eagles finished with the third-best scores on par-threes, shooting four-over and an average score of 3.07. The convocation were successful on par fives, finishing with the third-best score on the longest holes, recording an average score of 4.85 and nine-under. 

"Very happy with our final round today," says Director of Golf Randy Wylie. "Although this was not one of our better tournaments of the year we did show some improvement as the week went along. Jake Mynatt and had a really solid week with a top 10 finish. We will put in a couple weeks of hard practice to prepare to challenge for the SAC conference championship."

C-N recorded the second-most eagles on the week, carding three. Mynatt, Alex Hodge and Jackson Tyler all recorded eagles in the first round.

Jonathan Nielsen moved up seven spots after finishing the second round and carding back-to-back one-over 73s in the final two rounds. He finishes the tournament tied at 21st with a four-over 220. 

Hodge did the most moving of any Eagle, moving up 23 spots to a tie for 25th. The Knoxville native finished the second round with a five-over 77, but rebounded nicely in the final round for a two-under 70. Hodge shot a five-under 221 on the week, finishing in a tie for the sixth-best score on par threes, shooting one-under and an average score of 2.92.

Jackson Tyler moved up two spots into a tie for 54th. Like Nielsen, Tyler carded back-to-back 73s, finishing with an eleven-over 227 for the week. 

Elliot MacGregor moved up five spots into a tie for 67th, carding a one-over 73 in the second round and a six-over 78 in the final round. The freshman finished the week with a 15-over 231.

Competing as an individual, Will Collins finished tied for 34th. Collins carded an even-par 72 in the second round before shooting a one-over 73 in the final round, finishing the tournament with a seven-over 223.

Stephen Kinsel of North Georgia won the individual championship with a seven-under 209.

The Eagles will take a week off before heading to the SAC Men's Golf Championships beginning on Apr. 10 at the Graysburg Hills Golf Club in Greeneville, Tenn.
