Carson-Newman Women's Basketball Game Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – For the final time in the 2014-15 regular season, the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (16-9, 10-9 South Atlantic Conference) hit the road to take on the Queens (N.C.) Royals (5-19, 3-16 SAC) Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. tip-off at Curry Arena.

Carson-Newman is looking to end the regular season on a high note against a Queens team that ranks dead last out of 289 teams at the Division II level in points per game as the Royals average 52.6 points per contest. Queens has lost six straight games where it has failed to score 50 points four times in that span.

"They are very efficient offensively," coach Mike Mincey said. "They don't get in a hurry and that was one of the things that was in our game plan last time was to try to speed the game up. One of the ways of doing that is getting yourself out of position defensively by trapping all over the place and playing an up-tempo game."

The Royals are led by Lacey Singletary's 11.6 points per game. Singletary has a triple-double to her name this season as she averages 6.5 rebounds and ranks sixth in the nation in blocked shots by averaging 3.1 per night.

In the first meeting this year, Singletary played just six minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. After posting two points in the opening stanza, Singletary had 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting after the break.

"I think she is one of the best bigs in our league," Mincey said. "That's one of the big reasons we had the big lead in the first half because she was in foul trouble. They actually outscored us in the second half. Our energy dropped and we had that lead. She's someone we have to target. We have to make sure we stay out of foul trouble."

Carson-Newman took the first meeting on January 10 with a 76-59 victory at Holt Fieldhouse. The Lady Eagles held a 47-23 lead at halftime by forcing 20 first half turnovers and converting those miscues into 20 points.

The Lady Eagles assisted on 16 of their 18 made field goals in the first half of the game as 10 different players scored in the opening half. Freshman forward Allison Hodge (Blaine, Tenn.) led the way for Carson-Newman with 13 points, five rebounds and four steals.

Saturday's contest marks the fourth time the two teams have faced off against each other with Carson-Newman holding a 3-0 lead in the all-time series.

Fans can listen to the game by tuning into the Eagle Sports Network's flagship station 106.3 WPFT-FM or by going to cneagles.com/live beginning at 1:45 p.m. with "The AEC Countdown to Tip-Off".
