Final Results

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Carson-Newman women's golf team jumped three places during the final 18 holes of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate hosted by Tusculum to finish in a tie for eighth in the spring's opening tournament.

Sophomore Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) led the Eagles' charge with a final round 77 to finish in tie for 11th at a two-round total of 156 and just five strokes off the lead.

"Much better today even though the conditions were worse," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "It shows our resilience to improve each day. These days are building blocks for the rest of the spring season. It was an excellent two-day total from Elizabeth; it's fun to watch her be determined to finish strong. I'm very pleased with Taylor for a freshman. She showed a lot of guts."

England's 77 was her fifth round in the 70s in her last eight rounds of play. It was also the sophomore's third-straight tournament where she shot a better score in her second round compared to her first.

Freshman Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.) dropped four shots from her first round to her second round to finish with a score of 79. Hayes finished the tournament with a score of 162; her second round score of 79 was the freshman's first score in the 70s in four rounds.

Senior Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) shot a final round 83 to finish in a tie for 37th. Junior Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) dropped a shot off her Saturday score to shoot an 85 during Sunday's final round. Hart finished in a tie for 54th.

Senior Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) dropped two shots off her score on Saturday for a final score of 87; Pemberton finished in 66th-place.

The Armstrong State Pirates won the team event by three strokes over Florida Southern. West Alabama's Jessica Smyth won the individual medalist honors.

The Eagles will embark on a trip to the Sunshine State in two weeks for the Lady Moc Classic hosted by Florida Southern at Grasslands Country Club in Lakeland, Fla. on Feb. 22 and 23.
