JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman's golfer swept Chick-Fil-A Athlete of the Week honors, with the men's team's Dalton Reese and the women's team's Elizabeth England winning the accolades.
Junior Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) carded a final round one-under 71 to ascend up the leaderboard for his first career tournament win at the Tennessee River Ramble at Tennessee National Golf Club, while the 17th-ranked Carson-Newman men's golf team held steady for their second team win of the season last Tuesday.
Reese held off Brevard's Oskar Lundgren by a single stroke for his individual medalist accolade for a two-round total of one-over 145, while the Eagles blew past host Lincoln Memorial by eight strokes for the team title.
Reese opened his round with a score of three-under on the front nine and overcame three bogeys over the duration of five holes to win the River Ramble. The junior entered the day three strokes off the lead in fifth-place. The Georgian becomes the third active Eagle to win individual medalist honors during the Randy Wylie era by joining teammates Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) and Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.).
Sophomore Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) won her second career tournament after carding a final round even-par 72 during last Tuesday's final round to finish five strokes ahead of the second-place finisher at the 19th-annual Agnes McAmis Memorial at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.
The Carson-Newman women's golf team finished the 36-hole tournament in third-place after beginning the day in fifth and trailed the tournament winners Newberry by two strokes.
The sophomore shot the lone even-par round of the event on Tuesday with a 72; the even-par score was the Oakland, Tenn. native's lowest score of the year. England's victory is her first of the season and the second of her career following the Etowah Intercollegiate during her first year at Mossy Creek.
