C-N takes Southeast Region’s longest active win streak into Monday doubleheader with Brevard

C-N Game Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (25-7, 6-0 South Atlantic Conference) will look to continue a marvelous month of March Monday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Brevard (2-12, 0-6).

The Eagles, the only unbeaten team in SAC play, ride an 11-game winning streak into the doubleheader.  Armstrong State and Young Harris, a team C-N beat eight games ago, each ride eight-game win streaks to trail C-N for the region's longest active win streak.

Carson-Newman owns a double-digit win streak for the first time since 2010 and the 22nd time in school history.

C-N has outscored its opponents 90-13 on its win streak. The Eagles have a 0.75 team ERA on the win streak while limiting opponents to a .201 batting average. C-N hasn't made an error in the infield in six games.

Carson-Newman hasn't lost since March 5 when it opened a doubleheader with Augusta with a 6-5 defeat.  C-N hasn't trailed March 16 when it was down 2-1 in the fifth inning to Young Harris before rallying for a 4-3 win.  That's been the only time on the win streak in which the Eagles have trailed.

The Eagles have a .363 team batting average over the last 11 games.  Every regular for C-N is hitting north of .300.

The hottest bat belongs to Taylor Scott (Huntington, W.Va.). The freshman entered the Mars Hill game on an 0-for-9 streak at the plate.  She firmly put that in the rearview mirror by going 8-for-10 with a dinger, three doubles and nine runs batted in over the last week.

The Eagles likely close out the all-time series with Brevard as the Tornados complete their move to Division III at the end of the year.

Brevard, which has just 11 players on its roster, is last in the South Atlantic Conference in every statistical category, except for four.

The Tornados, who have played roughly half the games that the rest of the league has, have the fewest strikeouts (62), rank third in triples (8) and are 10th and 11th in times caught stealing and stolen bases.

Brevard's lack of depth has created some issues this season.  Against Southern Wesleyan, in the bottom of the first, Brevard's catcher attempted to steal home and collided with the Warriors catcher, causing the BC player to sit out the beginning of the second inning.  The Tornados threw two pitches with only eight players on the field, violating NCAA rules.  The violation led to a forfeit and making the forfeit score end in a 7-0 victory for the Warriors.

The Tornados have lost six consecutive SAC games since taking an 11-8 win from the Warriors in the back half of that doubleheader.  With the exception of a 5-0 loss to Tusculum, every South Atlantic Conference game for Brevard has been decided by at least eight runs.

First pitch between the Eagles and Tornados is set for 1 p.m. Monday.  Coverage of the contests will be available on the Eagle Sports Network at cneagles.com/live.
