Rinus brings in national pitcher of the week accolade from Fast Pitch News

CULVER CITY, Ca. – Carson-Newman freshman Lacie Rinus (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has garnered  has been named the Fast Pitch News National Pitcher of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday. 

Rinus adds the plaudit to AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.  It is the first national pitcher or player of the week honor for the Carson-Newman softball program in at least nine seasons. 

Rinus went 3-0 last week and allowed only nine hits between her three appearances.

She gave up two runs in 19 innings, both runs were unearned.   In fact, she has not given up an earned run over the past 29 innings dating back to March 22, 2017.

Rinus struck out twenty-five batters over last week's stretch to put her at first in the conference with 136 Ks on the season. 

She only walked three batters for the week.  Against Newberry in a 5-1 win, she struck out 10 batters for her sixth double-digit K effort of the season. 

Rinus wasn't too shabby at the plate either, going 9-for-17 with eight runs driven in and her first career home run. 

Rinus and the rest of the Eagles are in action Saturday at Coker.
