Eagles jump two more spots in region rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – Carson-Newman softball leap-frogged Armstrong State and Limestone to move up to second in the final edition of the Southeast Region rankings.

Seeds for the 2017 NCAA Softball Tournament will be unveiled during the NCAA's selection show Monday at 10 a.m.

The Eagles, the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions, sit only behind the winners of the Peach Belt titles North Georgia.  The Nighthawks are 44-10.  The Eagles are 43-11.

Armstrong State and Limestone each drop a spot to third and fourth, respectively.

Spots five through eight remain unchanged from last week.  Lenoir-Rhyne sits in fifth.  Young Harris and Pfeiffer are in at sixth and seventh, respectively, while Peach Belt runner up Flagler is eight.

The ninth and 10th spots are brand spanking new.  North Greenville is ninth after capturing the Conference Carolinas tournament championship.  The Crusaders, along with UNG and C-N, captured one of the region's three autobids to the regional.

Coker moved up to 10th, knocking Anderson out of the top 10, after the Cobras made a run to championship Sunday at the SAC tournament.

The Eagles also received recognition from a couple of other polls.  The NCAA.com power rankings have Carson-Newman 14th in the country.  The NFCA coaches poll has the Eagles receiving votes, two spots outside the top 25.
