Eagles set to begin SAC play on the road against LMU

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Carson-Newman women's tennis team is ready to kick off the conference portion of their season against the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Wednesday in Harrogate, Tenn.

The Eagles are coming off of a tough loss against 13th ranked North Georgia in their first match home at Mossy Creek. Forcing the Nighthawks to tiebreakers in five matches, C-N couldn't manage to come out on the winning side falling 6-1 roughly ten days ago.

The lone win came from freshman Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) who is 4-2 on the season. After starting off 1-3, the rookie stretched her winning streak to three matches with the win against Adrienne Bofinger who finished last season making the Peach Belt All-Conference Second Team for singles.

The Eagles' record fell to 3-4 overall after that match and they look to bounce back with a win against LMU.

Prior to the season, the 'Splitters landed at No. 6 in the South Atlantic Conference coaches' preseason poll. They are 7-3 so far on the 2019 season and 1-0 in conference play after defeating Catawba 5-2 in their conference opener. They are returning five players that the Eagles faced last year when they went head to head at Mossy Creek including senior Marta Piñol who was named to the preseason All-SAC Singles Second Team. C-N ended up losing the match 7-2 with the dubs coming from No. 1 doubles pair of now-graduated Jill Corsato and sophomore Abby Reis, and sophomore Hannah Price in three-set tiebreaking fashion at No. 3 singles.

"I think our team is very prepared going into the first conference match," Senior Ali Harris said. "We've worked hard all semester and over spring break so we're confident that we're ready."

The Eagles will begin play at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, for more information, results and updates check back on cneagles.com.
