Battle for No. 4 SAC seed set for Saturday between Eagles and Lenoir-Rhyne

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman will take on Lenoir-Rhyne for senior day on Saturday at Mossy Creek as the two will duke it out for the No. 4 seed in conference standings and a chance to host the conference tournament.

"I think everyone knows how important it is," Head coach Jim Frederick said. "This is what we've practiced for the whole year to be in this position and hopefully in years to come, we'll be in this position all the time. I think we're ready, this is what you play for, a big match like this. So it's fun."

The Eagles are 9-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play heading into Saturday's match against the Bears. They have won the last four out of five matches with a slight hiccup at Catawba to split the wins. Freshman Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) has burst onto the scene in her debut season as an Eagle and is currently 11-3 on the season with a seven-match winning streak.

For the first time in the program's history, Lenoir-Rhyne is nationally ranked sitting at No. 48 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. With a 15-3 overall record, the Bears are just narrowly ahead of the Eagles in conference play at 5-2. With the Eagles at No. 5 in conference standings and the Bears at No. 4, this match will decide who will get the No. 4 seed and potentially host the conference tournament. If the Eagles were to do so, it would be the first time in seventeen years the tournament has been hosted at Mossy Creek.

Match play will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday between the two squads at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex at Mossy Creek. For more information and updates, check back on cneagles.com.
