Resende ends the year Nationally ranked at No. 56

TEMPE, AZ -- Carson-Newman women's tennis standout freshman, Ana Carla Resende, concludes the year Nationally ranked at No. 56 in the latest Division II Women's Singles Rankings announced by the International Tennis Association Wednesday.

Resende stepped foot on campus for the first time in January of this year missing the entire fall season. She was challenged early and spent the entire season at the No. 1 singles position where she went 13-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Her only losses were against Nationally top 20 ranked Wingate University and Queens University. Resende defeated one division one opponent in the University of Chattanooga and stayed consistent in her winning ways against #12 Sewanee, #13 the University of North Georgia and #45 Tusculum.

"I am very proud of Ana Carla," Head Coach Jim Frederick said. "To come in as a freshman and start her college career two weeks after arriving is quite a feat. The best thing is that she is a great player who will improve, but she's an even better person."

Resende also earned a pair of South Atlantic Conference honors as she was a first-team singles selection, as well as Freshman of the Year after her debut season as an Eagle.
