Eagles prepare for next Conference match against Mars Hill at Mossy Creek

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman prepares for its return to action as the women host South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill on Wednesday at Mossy Creek.

"The girls are very confident right now," Coach Jim Frederick said. "Both singles and doubles have been solid despite the few losses over the past week or so, but we're glad to be back at home."

The Eagles (6-6, 3-2 SAC) are fresh off of a 5-2 win over Coker last Saturday. Falling 2-1 in doubles competition, the Eagles went into singles play down a point. However, rallying together, C-N was able to come back and win five out of the six singles including sophomore Claire Smith (Lexington, Ky.) coming back from being behind in her own match.

The Mountain Lions of Mars Hill (8-8, 0-5 SAC) are in the midst of a four-match losing skid. Three of them being Conference losses and their last win came on March 2 in a 5-2 victory over Southern Wesleyan.

Third-year head coach Bill Kreger's team sits at the bottom of the SAC standings alongside Coker as the two teams still searching for a win in a conference match. The team was chosen to finish at 11th in the conference preseason coaches' poll after a 2017-18 season that saw Mars Hill finish 2-16, 0-10 in SAC play.

Since 2010, the the Eagles have a one-match edge having gone 5-4 overall over the Lions. The Eagles have won the past four including an 7-2 victory a season ago.

Wednesday's match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex.
