C-N Battles but Falls Short against No. 37 Tusculum, 4-3

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Starting off a busy week against its rival, Carson-Newman (7-7, 5-4 SAC) battled hard but came up short against No. 37 Tusculum (12-6, 6-3 SAC), dropping the match 4-3.

"I wish the girls had better luck, but they did their best," head coach Jon Parker said. "When we play Tusculum in the conference tournament, it will be tough to beat us twice."

C-N gained the early advantage in doubles play, but Tusculum battled back, winning four of the six matches to secure the win. The Eagles battled hard; Anita Chornei earned a three-set win in singles despite dropping the first set in No. 2 singles, and Leah McBride took another win in the No. 5 slot. However, the Eagles could not hold off the Pioneers in the other four matches.

No. 6: Johanna Palacio (TU) def. Julia Speiser (C-N), 6-1/6-3

The Eagles earned the early advantage with a solid showing in doubles, taking each of the first two matches to secure the point. Despite dropping the match, C-N put its best foot forward in doubles, as the all-conference pairing of Summer Reeves and Natasha Forrest earned a win, and the freshman duo of Leah McBride and Sindija Manovska clinched the point in the No. 2 slot.
