Eagles hop on the road for a trip to Tusculum on Wednesday

JEFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's tennis gets ready for a big match against Tusculum on Wednesday in Pioneer territory.

The Pioneers are 6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play after defeating Coker and Anderson earlier this month. At the beginning of the season, they were projected to finish in third place in the South Atlantic Conference in the preseason coaches' poll and had four players voted to the All-Conference team.

The Eagles are coming off of a solid 6-1 win against Newberry on Sunday and are rolling into the match looking to add to their wins.

"The girls have a little more confidence," Coach Jim Frederick said. "When we practiced on Monday, we were only going to hit for an hour to loosen up, but we ended up having a full practice because they were so excited."

Tusculum is in third place behind Queens and Wingate in the league standings and C-N is sitting at fifth. With a win, the Eagles could potentially work their way up a bit.

"If we kind of project at the end of the season, this match could be for a four seed at the Conference Tournament. So, it's huge. I think every conference match is huge. The only two teams that are way above us at this point are Queens and Wingate and they are the class of the league. We've got to get past the teams that we're comparable with first and then tackle the Wingate and Queens teams."

The Eagles are set to start at 1 p.m. on Wednesday on the refurbished courts at the Nichols Tennis Complex in Greeneville, Tenn.
