Eagle volleyball blows past Brevard in sweep

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman (4-6, 2-3 SAC) volleyball snapped a two game skid in dominating fashion with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-21) sweep of the Brevard Tornados (7-6, 1-4 SAC).

The Eagles held Brevard to a .097 hit percentage while C-N blasted away at a .242 mark.

A balanced Eagle attack featured five players with more than five kills but none in double figures.  Lauren Santarelli (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the way with nine while Kiayna O'Neal (Katy, Texas) crushed it through the middle with seven kills on 10 swings for a .700 attack percentage.

Sabina Papala (Laziska Gorne, Poland) and Rachel Harper (Chattanooga, Tenn.) each had six kills, while Morristown, Tenn.,-native Rachael Bowlin finished with five.

The Eagles utilized a 6-2 offense with two setters passing out a combined 33 assists for the three-set match.  Kristen Pickett (Cleveland, Tenn.) dished out 20 helpers while Lindsey Wells (Morristown, Tenn.) doled out 13 balls.

O'Neal also led the Eagles front line with three block assists – C-N finished with seven as a team.  The team block slowed things down for a floor defense championed by senior libero Angelle Hayes (Brentwood, Tenn.), who picked up a match high 14 digs.

The Eagles return to Holt Fieldhouse for another SAC showdown with Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m., Saturday.  Stats and video will be available at cneagles.com.
