Wottreng named finalist for AVCA Grant Burger Media Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Carson-Newman Assistant Director for Athletic Communications Michael Wottreng has been named one of six finalists for the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Grant Burger Media Award.

Wottreng earns the distinction as a broadcaster.  He joins Loras' Jim Naprstek (Sports Information), The Journal News' Mike Zacchio (Web), South Carolina Beach Volleyball SID Baley Murphy (Social Media) and UC Irvine's Brendan Yu (College Student Reporter) as those honored.

Tom Feuer from Arizona State won the overall Burger Media Award.

"Michael Wottreng has consistently delivered a staunch product on-air in his time here with Carson-Newman volleyball," Director of Athletic Communications Adam Cavalier said. "His passion and knowledge of the sport is readily evident on air.  It's my humble opinion that he's the top volleyball broadcaster in the country, and I'm thrilled he's with us at C-N."

Wottreng is the primary voice of Carson-Newman volleyball and has helped ensure that every home match in his tenure at Mossy Creek has been streamed on the Eagle Sports Network.

He is also responsible for the production of in excess of 75 videos pertaining to that sport in the past calendar year at C-N, as well as the coordination of media relations for Carson-Newman volleyball.

The AVCA Grant Burger Media Award is an honor intended to recognize members of the media who have been involved in the advancement of the sport of volleyball, whether it be through consistent coverage in all mediums (sports information, print, broadcasting, web content, college student reporter and social media), production of volleyball-specific publications or extensive radio and/or television exposure.

It is named in honor of Grant Burger, former Director of Sports Information and Associate Director of the AVCA (1988-92), whose hard work, innovative mind, knowledge and enthusiasm took the areas of media relations and publications at the AVCA to a higher level and increased awareness of the sport of volleyball nationwide.
