Eagles set to continue trek through Sunshine State with five matches over the weekend

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.—After splitting a four-match slate to begin the season at the Stetson Sand Tournament last weekend, the Carson-Newman beach volleyball team will be back in action this weekend with five matches against Webber, Eckerd and Stevenson.

"We have enjoyed our time in beautiful Florida so far over the past week," assistant coach Kirby Toribio said. "Webber has a solid line across the board and we are looking forward to playing at their place."

The Eagles (2-2) will begin the weekend with a contest against Webber Thursday morning starting at 11 a.m. Eckerd (1-4) will then play host to the Eagles on Saturday for a pair of duals beginning at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. as the two squads will meet for the second time this season.

Carson-Newman defeated the Tritons 3-2 in the final game of the Stetson Tournament last weekend on March 5.

"This will be our second time this season playing Eckerd," Toribio said. "They are well coached and will be a tough team to beat twice in a row."

Stevenson (0-0) will then square off against the Eagles on Sunday of another two-contest day which starts at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m to conclude the tri-match weekend at Eckerd.

Carson-Newman's bright spot in the season-opening weekend at the Stetson Tournament was the play from the freshman duo of Katie Will (Clearwater, Fla.) and Ally King (Cincinnati, Ohio). The Eagles' no. 2 pairing went a combined 4-0 in the tournament and remains as C-N's only undefeated team heading into the second weekend of the season.

"We are thankful to be invited to play against Eckerd and Stevenson at Eckerd. They have a beautiful facility and a great playing environment," Toribio said. "We have had to work on a bunch of stuff this week and I am eager to see us execute in our matches this weekend."
