Florida voyage ends with two Eagle victories over Stevenson

St. Petersburg, Fla.— Following two losses to Eckerd on Saturday, the Carson-Newman beach volleyball team responded by winning a pair of duels against Stevenson on Sunday, 4-1 and 5-0, to win their fourth and fifth win of the season and to conclude the 11-day voyage through the Sunshine State.

Dual No. 1: Carson-Newman 4, Stevenson 1

After dropping their first two sets of the season Saturday afternoon, the Eagles' No. 1 pairing of Katie Will (Clearwater, Fla.) and Ally King (Cincinnati, Ohio) rebounded for a 21-10 two set victory to begin the day for Carson-Newman.

Maddie Zyburt (Plainfield, Ill.) and Molly Locke (College Grove, Tenn.) would then lose a court over in the second-seeded contest, 21-18, 18-21 and 15-13 in three sets to the Mustang's Annika Schwartz and Megan Hren.

C-N would not lose again as the Eagles took the final three matches of the contest for their fourth win of the season.

Sara Fairley (Charlotte, N.C.) and Taylor Lowe (Franklin, Tenn.) teamed up for the first time this season in the third round of matches to put forth the 21-5, 21-11 win, and Kristina Hill (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Natalie Harris (Monroe, N.C.) combined efforts for a 21-14 in two sets at No. 4.

Carson-Newman would then conclude dual No. 1 against Stevenson with a 21-12, 22-20 win at No. 5 from Aileen Anderson (Pittstown, N.J.) and Megan Morris (Mount Pleasant, S.C.).

Dual No. 2: Carson-Newman 5, Stevenson 0

Carson-Newman was able to outlast Stevenson in dual No. 2 on the day as the Eagles held on to capture the 5-0 sweep after the final three matches went into the third set.

Following wins in the first two matches of the contest from Will and King (21-12, 21-14) and Zyburt and Locke (21-17, 21-14), the Eagles relied on the bottom of the order to produce their fifth win of the season.

Fairly and Lowe came out on top following the 21-18, 20-22 and 15-11 three-set victory in the third-seeded contest, while Hill and Harris produced their sixth win of the season together at No. 4 in a 20-12, 21-15 and 15-13 victory.

Hannah Robertson (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) and Allie Foster (Johnson City, Tenn.) would then clinch the victory for the Eagles in the fifth-set, winning 21-19, 16-21 and 15-13 to end the day.

Carson-Newman will take a weekend off before returning to action on March 26 with a pair of duels against Jacksonville and Alabama Birmingham at the South Carolina Sand Tournament.
