JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman women's track and field athletes Kadidja Sangare and Sade De Sousa are headed to the 2024 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Emporia, Kan. beginning tomorrow, May 23.
"To know who they are, I don't expect anything less than a national championship," head track and field coach David Needs said. "This is always a great feeling. This is our 19th time going to a national championship. To go with this level of consistency and with such special athletes, only makes this trip that much more fun. It's not like we have people who are just excited to be there. We have athletes who are going to compete and try to win a national championship".
The 2024 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships will begin Thursday, May 23 in Emporia, Kan. at Welch Stadium. Live results for the meet can be found HERE.
"It's the fourth nationals for me and Kadidja, back-to-back. So, it's exciting to go our there and continue to represent our school," women's track and field athlete De Sousa said.
De Sousa will race in the first round of the women's 100-meter dash at 7:25 p.m. tomorrow, May 23. She was selected with an 11.38-second seed time in the event. Finals for the event will take place at 4:35 p.m. on Saturday, May 25.
"I feel pretty good about it," women's track and field athlete Sangare said. "I'm trying to stay calm and enjoy it as much as I can".
Sangare will compete in the women's long jump on Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m.
"It basically comes down to this; you be you," Needs said. "They are talented enough that if they go and be themselves, they are going to compete. They just need to be at their best. If they are, they can compete with anybody in the country.
