Sangare & De Sousa grab Second Team All-American honors

EMPORIA, Kan.- Carson-Newman women's track and field athletes Kadidja Sangare and Sade De Sousa grabbed Second Team All-American honors at the 2024 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships this evening, May 23. 

"Today, we saw some great competition. Nationals is one of those meets where you go and do your best to see where you stand," head track and field coach David Needs said. "They got after it, and I'm proud of how hard these two athletes have worked all season". 

De Sousa became a Second Team All-American in the women's 100-meter dash this evening, May 23. De Sousa placed 11th in the first round of the event with a time of 11.45 seconds. Results from the meet can be found HERE

"It was a really fast 100, and it was a great field all around. I'm proud of Sade for getting after it and giving her all," Needs said. "Kadidja also threw out some really big jumps. She was taking some big swings to get a big mark, and I commend her for her efforts". 

Sangare grabbed Second Team All-American honors in the women's long jump with an 11th-place finish in the event. Sangare finished with a 5.90-meter leap. 

"I was excited to see how they did on the biggest stage," Needs said. "Kadidja and Sade are competitors, and they continue to prove how consistent and outstanding they are in their events". 

Carson-Newman track and field is headed home from the 2024 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships with their 61st and 62nd All-Americans since 2014. The Eagles will be back in action next year for the 2024-25 season. Stay up to date on cneagles.com.
