Day One Results

GREENWOOD, S.C. – With darkness falling upon the Greenwood Country Club by Monday evening, the first day of the Bearcat Classic was cut short with No. 25 Carson-Newman sitting in a tie for 10th.

Every team made it through the first round but only played roughly 12 holes of the second. That round will need to be completed on Tuesday morning before third-round action can begin.

Carson-Newman was six-over through the first round with a 294, sitting 10 shots back of first.

Jackson Tyler (Wilmington, N.C.) led the Eagles through the opening 18 with an even 72, holding a share of 23rd. He fired four birdies in the round with a pair of birdies and a double-bogey. Three of his four bogeys can on par-5 holes. The senior's opening 72 marks his lowest round score since he carded a 71 in the final round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on March 19, 2019.

One shot behind Tyler is Alex Hodge (Knoxville, Tenn.), tied for 31st with a 1-over 73. The senior was on par for all seven of his first holes of the day before carding back-to-back bogeys on the par-4 11th and 12th holes. He found three birdies after that but shot for two more bogeys.

Tied for 39th after the first round was Will Collins (Knoxville, Tenn.) at 2-over. Like Tyler, he fired four birdies in the round but had six bogeys en route to his 74. Four of those came on par-4s.

Jonathan Nielsen (Hørsholm, Denmark) was 3-over in his first round on the C-N starting lineup, placing him in a tie for 51st by the turn of the day. The freshman shot a 75 with the most holes for par on the team in the round with 12. He was over-par on four holes, one being a double-bogey to start the round, but tallied two birdies.

Rounding out C-N scoring in the first round was Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.), tied for 85th at 6-over. The junior had the most holes over-par for the Eagles in the round with seven including a double-bogey on the par-4 11th. His two birdies both came on par-4 holes.

Newberry and Barton were tied for the top spot through the first 18 holes at 4-under with No. 1/2 Lincoln Memorial at third, trailing by one shot.

On the player side, Erskine's Alberto Dominguez was the first-round leader with a 5-under 67. Lincoln Memorial's Cade Preston and Young Harris' Peter Chung were second at 4-under.
