LENOIR CITY, Tenn. – A 281 in the final round gave No. 22/23 Carson-Newman the lowest score it has ever posted at the Tennessee River Rumble, helping it jump up seven spots on Tuesday for a share of fourth to close out the regular season at the WindRiver Golf Club.

The Eagles were 7-under through the last 18 holes to match their lowest round of the year that they posted in the opening round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate just two weeks ago. They finished this week's event with an even 864, one-shot shy of the top-three. Their 52 birdies throughout the three rounds were the second-most in the field, 21 of those coming on Tuesday alone.

"We played our worst round of the season in the first round and our best of the season in the final round," Carson-Newman coach Randy Wylie said. "Golf is a crazy sport. Very happy to see a great round of 67 that Alex (Hodge) played and have Jonathan (Nielsen), a freshman, shoot under par for the first time in his career."

Alex Hodge (Knoxville, Tenn.) posted the lowest score of the week for the group in Tuesday's finale with a 5-under 67, his best round in the Orange and Blue, to finish in a tie for 10th with a 4-under 212. He carded seven birdies in the round, doubling his amount from the first two rounds combined.

This 67 matches the lowest individual score for an Eagle this season. The last one to do it was Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the first round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. Hodge was the only Eagle to finish in the top 10, pushing him to two this season and five in his C-N career. His 212 marks his lowest 54-hole score of the year.

Mynatt was the next closest to Hodge by the end of Tuesday, tied for 23rd at 1-over with a 217. His 71 in the final round was his lowest score of the week, knocking one shot off of his second round score.

Jackson Tyler (Wilmington, N.C.) posted a 73 on Tuesday to push his final score to a 221, good enough for a tie for 23rd. Similar to the first round, the junior fired an eagle in the round, this time on the par-5 5th hole. He was one of just three players in the field to shoot for eagle twice during the event.

One shot behind Tyler by the end of the event was Will Collins (Knoxville, Tenn.), tied for 44th at 6-over. He tacked on eight shots from where he left Monday, posting a week-high 78 for a 222. He overshadowed three birdies with eight holes that were over par.

Jonathan Nielsen (Hørsholm, Denmark) turned in a new career-best with a 70 on Tuesday, elevating him to a share of 61st on the leaderboard. He carded six birdies on Tuesday, his highest amount for the week, in a round that was seven shots lower than where he entered the clubhouse the day prior.

The freshman was the best par-3 scorer in the entire field during the final round with a 3-under average of 2.25.

Individual Zach Young (Crossville, Tenn.) closed out the week in 80th at 17-over. His 75 in the final round is the second-lowest single round of his career.

No. 14/12 Young Harris went wire-to-wire to win the River Rumble with a commanding 835 total, 29-under-par. No. 4/5 Lincoln Memorial, the event's host, took second at 5-under while Wingate finished third at 1-under. C-N held down fourth alongside No. 16/17 North Georgia.

Wingate's Charles Joubert and Young Harris' Peter Chung finished the final round tied at the top of the leaderboard at 11-under. Tobias Jonsson from Young Harris was third at 9-under.

In just about two weeks, Carson-Newman will travel up to the Woodlake Golf Club in Tazewell, Tenn. for the South Atlantic Conference Championship. That three-day tournament begins on April 18.
