Cooke Tallies Lone Goal as Eagles Open "Catawba Weekend" with Win, 1-0

SALISBURY, NC -- Carson-Newman claimed a 1-0 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action on Friday night at Frock Field.

The Eagles improve to 7-3-1 overall and 4-1 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 4-7-1 and 0-3-1.

Forward Omar Cooke (Roanoke, VA) tallied the lone goal of the match in the 22nd minute. The senior collected a ball in the Catawba box and flicked a shot over Tribe keeper Tyler Held (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam HS) from close range.

That goal would hold up as the Eagles out-shot Catawba 14-7. The Indians had only one shot in the final half. Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, TN) recorded the shutout, making four saves. Held and Ross Willard (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville HS) shared duties for Catawba, each playing a half. Held had two saves, while Willard posted three.

The win kicks off a 24-hour stretch where Carson-Newman faces Catawba in four different sports. C-N will host the Indians in volleyball (11:30 a.m.), football (3:00 p.m.), and women's soccer (7 p.m.) tomorrow.
