No. 22 Carson-Newman Men’s Soccer Earns The Top Seed In The 2009 Food Lion SAC Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Carson-Newman College Men’s Soccer Team is set to host its quarterfinal matchup of the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., at McCown Field, C-N and SAC officials announced Sunday. The Eagles took the #1 seed as a result of winning the league regular season title, the program’s record eighth SAC championship.

The top-seeded Eagles (7-1-0 SAC, 12-3-1), who are also ranked No. 22 in the country will face eighth-seeded Catawba Indians (1-6-1 SAC, 5-11-1). C-N defeated Catawba, 1-0, in the regular season meeting between the two schools.

Wingate University and Lincoln Memorial University tied for second in the conference standings. Wingate earned the second seed by virtue of its 2-1 victory over LMU on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (6-1-1 SAC, 11-3-1) will face seventh-seed Newberry College (2-6-0 SAC, 3-13-2) on Tuesday Wingate beat Newberry 3-1 in their regular-season meeting.

Lincoln Memorial (6-1-1 SAC, 10-4-1) is the third seed and will host sixth-seed Mars Hill College (2-3-3 SAC, 6-7-4) on Tuesday. The Railsplitters and Lions met last Tuesday, with the Railsplitters taking a 1-0 victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne University (4-2-2 SAC, 8-6-3) is the fourth seed and will host fifth-seed Tusculum College (4-4-0 SAC, 8-6-1). The matchup will be a rematch of Saturday's regular-season finale, which the Bears won easily, 5-0, over last season's regular season and tournament champions.

Quarterfinal winners advance to the tournament semifinals, which will be held at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex in Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday, November 6. The two semifinal matches will be played at 3:00 p.m.

The tournament championship will be Sunday, November 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex as well.

Admission to all Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament events is $5 for adults and $2 for college students and children.
