Eagles Land Five on Preseason All-SAC Soccer Teams

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Carson-Newman men's soccer team placed five members on the preseason All-South Atlantic Conference teams, league officials announced this week.

Senior forward Omar Cooke (Roanoke, Va.), sophomore forward Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England), junior defender Matthew Finlay (Liverpool, England) and junior goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) were named to the first team, while senior midfielder Everardo Flores (Silver Spring, Md.) was placed on the second team.

Cooke saw action in 16 matches in 2008 and earned first team All-SAC and first team National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Southeast Region honors. A three-time All-SAC performer, Cooke dished out one assist and tallied five goals on the season, including a two-goal effort in a 2-0 win over Newberry (Nov. 1).

Hill, a second team All-SAC performer in 2008, led the Eagles and was fifth in the conference in goals scored with 13, including two game-winning goals. He also led the team in points (29) and shots (56). Hill closed out the season in strong fashion as he scored at least one goal in 11 out of C-N's last 13 matches, including a season-high two goals in a 6-1 win over Concord (Oct. 8).

Finlay garnered second team All-SAC honors last season as he started 17 matches and helped anchor a C-N defense that produced five shutouts and held opponents to a SAC best 18 goals on the season. He also dished out one assist and scored four goals, including his first career goal as an Eagle in a 5-0 victory over Francis Marion (Sept. 13).

Moore recorded 64 saves in 17 starts for the Eagles in 2008, earning him first team All-SAC honors. He led the conference in goals against average (0.94) and save percentage (.810) and was third in the SAC in shutouts with five. Moore tallied a season-high nine saves at Wingate on Oct. 19.

Flores, a second team All-SAC performer last season, started 17 matches and helped the C-N defense produce five shutouts and hold opponents to a league-best 18 goals. He also scored one goal.
