Eagles land three on All-SAC lists

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman was represented on all three of the All-South Atlantic Conference accolades lists with Tobias Solem Karlsen selected to the first team, Greg Evans to the second team and Samuel Jenkins tabbed an honorable mention, as released by the league on Thursday.

This is just the second time since the league started compiling the three lists for awards in 2013 that the Orange and Blue has had at least one person on each list.

For a second-straight season, Tobias Solem Karlsen (Kongsvinger, Norway) was named a first-team selection by the conference. The junior forward is leading the team in almost every statistical category with 10 goals, five being game-winners, 22 points, 64 shots with 27 on goal.

"I'm real thankful for it and grateful," Karlsen said. "It's proving that I've done something right and, luckily, this year, I'm healthy when I'm receiving it and we're still playing. This is just a confirmation that I'm doing something right and can help me going into the tournament."

The forward has had three multi-goal games this season including a hat trick against Coker on Sept. 22. His most recent one came in the SAC Quarterfinal as the seventh-seeded Eagles upset second-seeded Queens in Charlotte. Karlsen scored both of C-N's goals in that one.

Karlsen has been slowly rising up the program history records list this season, especially for goals. The junior is tied for the ninth-most career goals with 22 in his three seasons at Mossy Creek. His five game-winners this season matched the second-best mark in a single season that he set last year. He is one game-winning goal away from tying Omar Cooke for the second-most in program history with 11 between 2005 and 2009.

Greg Evans (Wrexham, Wales) has been a consistent piece of the midfield puzzle for C-N this season, starting in all 16 of its contests. The junior netted his first career goal in the Eagles' 2-1 loss to then-No. 10 Lander on Oct. 10.

He has matched his assist count from last year at one while sending out eight shot attempts, the most in a season for his career. All four of his career shots on goal have come this season.

Samuel Jenkins' (Bicester, England) All-SAC honorable mention gives him his second-straight league laurel. He was a first-team selection a year ago.

In his final season at Mossy Creek, the C-N captain has started in all 16 of the group's matches thus far.

The senior defender notched his first goal since 2016 with a header in the Eagles' 3-2 win at Lincoln Memorial on Sept. 19.

"(Evans and Jenkins) are in the mids, the centerback and the centermid. Those two, especially, stick the team together," Karlsen said of his fellow All-SAC Selections. "You always hear the boys, they're always at you if you don't do the job or they're always at you if you do the job so those two are just vital to keep both the defense and midfield feel apart."

The trio of Eagles along with the rest of the Carson-Newman side prepares for its first SAC Semifinal appearance since 2015 with a rivalry match against Queens. That match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. from Manchester Meadows.
