JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (3-3-1, 1-2) looks to get back on track tomorrow night when it squares off against Mars Hill (2-2-4, 0-0-3).

Coming off losses this season, Carson-Newman 2-0. After its first loss of the year, Stephen Lyons' team regrouped for a 4-1 home opening win over Young Harris. The same was done after losing to Wingate in the SAC opener, the guys responded with a 3-0 shutout of Emory & Henry.

Carson-Newman has gotten solid contributions from its two fifth year seniors, Harry Whitehead (Oxford, England) and Nic Carsh (Newberg, Ore.). The duo combines for five of C-N's ten goals this year and three of the team's ten assists as well. They have combined for 113 games played and 94 starts.

With the exception of last game, C-N has defended well this season. The team has three clean sheets and is third in the league in goals against average and save percentage (.828).

Carson-Newman has had Mars Hill's number as of late. The Eagles have won five straight matchups and have scored multiple times in each of those meetings. Mars Hill's last win in the series came on September 21, 2016, a 3-2 win in Mossy Creek. In seven matchups at Mars Hill, C-N is 5-0-2.

The Eagles won a competitive 3-2 game last season. Tim Vercelli scored in the 10th minute to put the home team up 1-0. Peter Plougmand answered in the 25th minute to tie the match. The duo of Carsh and Whitehead combined for a pair of headers in the 29th and 34th minutes to give C-N a 3-1 edge. Mars Hill capped the first half scoring with a Braxton Robinson goal with 53 seconds until halftime. Neither team scored in the second half, as C-N took down #14 Mars Hill.

Mars Hill enters Wednesday's match with a 2-2-4 overall record and 0-0-3 record in league games. Its two wins came at the beginning of the season, a 2-1 win over Mount Olive and a 3-2 road win over North Greenville. Since those results, the Lions have a pair of losses and four ties, three of those ties in league play, including four in their last five matches. The only common opponent between the two schools is Coker, who C-N lost 5-0 to last time out, the Lions tied with Coker on Sept 9.

Peter Plougmand is the heart and soul of the Mars Hill attack. He leads the team in goals (4), assists (2), shots (26), shots on goal (14) and points (10).

The goalkeeper position has been a revolving door for the Lions. James Price and Logan Cassel have each played in multiple games. Price has 15 saves, allowing four goals and has two shutouts this season. While Cassel has 13 saves and has allowed just four goals.
