JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – With just a few games to go in the regular season, Carson-Newman (4-4-5, 2-3-3) welcomes Anderson (5-4-3, 3-2-3) back to Jefferson City to resume a South Atlantic Conference match that has a lot at stake.

Anderson made the trip to Jefferson City, Tennessee to play Carson-Newman on September 10th, but the two teams were only able to play the first 33 minutes and 39 seconds of the contest before severe thunderstorms hit the area that night. Tomorrow's match will resume at 5:00 p.m. with Anderson leading 1-0 with 12:55 to go in the opening half.

Here is what has happened so far. C-N got the first shot of the match from Ben Dukes (Southampton, England) but it was blocked. The Eagles had two more really good opportunities in the 24th and 27th minutes as Harry Whitehead (Oxford, England) and Mitchell Honcoop (Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands) each had chances at goal but Anderson keeper Amos Uber made a pair of saves.

The Trojans only shot on frame went in the back of the net, as Lucas Goldberg found Juan Jose Alvarez to give the visitors the advantage in the 32nd minute. Only 99 more seconds were played before the officials pulled the teams off the field for lightning, which was then followed by heavy thunderstorms.

The final 57 minutes and five seconds of this match means a ton for both sides. Carson-Newman enters the match as the first team out, missing the SAC tournament. The good news for the Eagles is that they are only three points back of tying Tusculum and Anderson at 12 points to get back in the mix. C-N still has to play Tusculum in the regular season finale as well. The Trojans are seeking some comfort with where they sit in the standings with three games left to play.

Carson-Newman is aiming to stay unbeaten in home matches this season. The Eagles are 2-0-3, with the last three home games all resulting in ties. Under Stephen Lyons, C-N is 30-13-9 at McCown Field.

Nine days ago, fifth-year senior Harry Whitehead (Oxford, England) scored his fourth goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Lee. The striker now has 17 goals in his C-N career, the same number as fellow fifth-year senior Nic Carsh (Newberg, Ore.).

Since this match started more than a month ago, Anderson has a 4-3-3 record overall and 3-2-3 record in league play, good for 12 points. The Trojans secured a top 25 win when it knocked off #22 Lincoln Memorial on Sept 16. After not scoring a goal in three straight matches to begin October, Anderson has scored seven in its past two games to regain momentum and return to Mossy Creek on a two-game winning streak.

Julian Caro Sepulveda has a team-high four goals, including two in the team's 4-2 over Catawba last time out. Four other Trojans have scored multiple goals for an offense that ranks sixth in the SAC. Franco Antoniolli Funes' 52 saves are third most in the SAC, averaging more than five per match.

Play resumes at 5:00 p.m. from McCown Field. The game can be streamed on FloSports with a subscription. Fans can also follow along to @CN_Eagles on Twitter and Instagram for in-game updates.
