JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's soccer head coach Stephen Lyons has announced the hiring of former C-N goalkeeper Matt Meschendorf as a graduate assistant for the men's soccer program.
"We are really delighted to have him on aboard," Carson-Newman head coach Stephen Lyons said. "He has been with the program for the past 5 years. He understands our style of play and expectations we set forth as a team. He also has experience coaching and I have no doubt he can translate that to the coaching ranks at the collegiate level."
Meschendorf came to Carson-Newman in the fall of 2018 and finished his playing career this past season. He made his debut on the pitch in win over Belmont Abbey on Feb. 13, 2020, and did not allow a goal in his over three minutes of action.
Since January of 2020, he has served as an assistant soccer coach at Jefferson County High School.
The former keeper received his bachelor's degree in physics with a minor in mathematics. As a graduate assistant, Meschendorf will work toward a master's in business administration with an emphasis on sports management.
