C-N makes second-consecutive leap in national polls

INDIANAPOLIS – The Carson-Newman men's swimming program made a jump in a top-25 poll for the second time this week as the TYR/CSCAA put C-N at No. 14 this morning. The CSCAA updates the national rankings each month through the end of February prior to the NCAA Division II Championships. The CSCAA represents and advocates for all divisions of intercollegiate swimming and diving.

The Eagles also jumped nine spots to No. 11 in the latest CollegeSwimming national polls announced on Monday, Nov. 12.

Jordan Taylor's side began the year pegged as the No. 20 team in the nation, but a victory over No. 10 Wingate alone to start the season at home helped the Eagles case.

C-N fought against the Bulldogs once again the Emory Invitational a few weeks following the dual meet in Jefferson City, Tenn. The Eagles topped Catawba over the two-day invite who currently ranks 29th.

The group also comes off a dominating home win against Lees-McRae on Saturday, Nov. 10 in which both teams combined grabbed 19 out of 20 events on the afternoon in the 253.5 to 71.5 final.

"I'm delighted with the improvement to our national standing," Taylor said. "That was one of our goals going into the meet. Race hard in each of the events and improve on season-best swims which in turn would prepare us for upcoming meets and help toward these rankings. The team has really worked hard the past three months and has been able to get some really impressive times."

The C-N women's side began the year No. 18 in the country but have since fallen out of the top-25.

The Eagles turn their heads toward the University of Tennessee Invitational at the end of the month. It's the second-straight season in which Taylor's troops will compete over the three-day meet as they will be the only Division II program in attendance.
