Burstrom Shoots Lady Eagles Past Lady Panthers 83-71

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (8-3, 5-0 South Atlantic Conference) women's basketball team finished the 2013 portion of its schedule with a come-from-behind 83-71 victory over the Kentucky Wesleyan Lady Panthers (6-3, 2-0 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) at Holt Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.

Carson-Newman trailed by five points at the half, only to outscore the Lady Panthers 50-33 in the second half in the final non-conference matchup of the season.

"We got some baskets inside and that opened up the outside for Tatum Burstrom go to off, hitting six three's in the second half, and that's how we like to play," said Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey.

Carson-Newman was once again led in scoring by sophomore Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) who scored in the mid-20's for a second straight game with 25 points as she was 7-for-15 from 3-point land, scoring 22 of her 25 points in the second half to help lead the Lady Eagles to victory.

"Once she started hitting those three's it got the defense scattered a little bit, trying to keep up and guard her," Mincey said. "Tatum is one of those players that if she gets to feeling 'it' she can certainly 'go.' Her performance tonight should garner her SAC Player of the Week honors."

Burstrom was joined by four other Lady Eagles in double-digit scoring, with senior Chante' Markus (Hummelstown, Pa.) posting 13 points as she scored in double figures for the sixth straight contest. Junior Lashawnda Peacher (Springfield, Tenn.) added 11 points while junior Jassmine Franklin (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Kaitlyn Cupples (Clinton, Tenn.) both scored 10 points for the Lady Eagles.
