Lady Eagles Fall to Bears 62-48

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (12-10, 9-7 South Atlantic Conference) women's basketball team fell to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (17-4, 12-4 South Atlantic Conference) by a score of 62-48 at Holt Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

Carson-Newman scored its second lowest point total of the season, as the losing streak has now reached a season-long five games for the Lady Eagles.

"We just can't put the ball in the basket for whatever reason," said Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey. "We have to figure out a way as a head coach and as a staff how to instill that confidence back into the players that they can make shots, they are good basketball players. Right now we just don't have it."

Carson-Newman was led in scoring by junior Lashawnda Peacher (Springfield, Tenn.) who scored 13 points off of the bench and also grabbed six rebounds. She was the only Lady Eagle to score in double figures in the contest.

The score was tied only once in the first half but the lead changed eight times as both teams saw several runs of five or six points to keep going back-and-forth with the lead.

Lenoir-Rhyne closed the first half on an 8-2 run over the final five minutes of the half and carried a 29-24 lead into the locker room.

The Bears never trailed in the second half, and the Lady Eagles would never get within fewer than a five-point deficit to Lenoir-Rhyne.

Carson-Newman shot 30 percent from the field, and was just 1-for-10 from 3-point land in the game, with the only 3-pointer made in the first half from Tatum Burstrom. Burstrom was held to under her team-best 11.6 points per game average to seven points in the contest.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by the 14 points off of the bench from Brittany Christian, and she was the lone Bear to score in double digits.

Carson-Newman will next play on the road on Wednesday night, traveling to Brevard to face the Tornados at 6 p.m.

Wednesday's game will be carried on the Eagle Sports Network's flagship station WPFT-FM 106.3 FM, with coverage beginning at 5:45 p.m. with "The Countdown to Tipoff," and live audio is also available on www.cneagles.com.
