Taylor garners second SAC weekly recognition

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Powering Carson-Newman to a pair of victories, Lindsey Taylor became the first person to win two South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week awards this year on Monday announced by the league.

Monday is the third time in the 19 weeks since she stepped on campus that the Maryville, Tenn. native has won the weekly laurel. Out of the last 11 honors the SAC has dished out since Jan. 25, 2021, Carson-Newman is responsible for five with Braelyn Wykle (Greeneville, Tenn.) getting a pair las season.

The preseason first-team All-SAC selection registered 43 minutes and racking up 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game shooting 78 percent from the floor, going 18-for-23.

Despite being suspended for the first half by the conference of an 81-64 victory at UVA Wise on Wednesday, Taylor did not come off of the floor in the second half scoring a season-high 27 of the team's 47 points after halftime. The Maryville, Tenn. native went 12-for-14 from the field grabbing eight rebounds.

Once again coming up clutch, Taylor scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter helping the Lady Eagles overcome an eight-point deficit to defeat Newberry 77-73 on Saturday. She added seven caroms, three helpers and two pilfers.

In her last four games, the junior is averaging nearly 19 points per outing going 30-for-38, 79 percent, from the field hauling in at least seven rebounds in the last three. Shooting 65 percent for the season, the post player ranks fourth nationally in field-goal efficiency and 12th in free-throw attempts with 63. Among SAC ranks, her three double-doubles rank second, her 62 made shots are third and she is sixth in scoring with 15.7 per game.

Taylor leads the Lady Eagles into a conference home matchup against Mars Hill on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. from Holt Fieldhouse. Air time on the Eagle Sports Network is 5:15 p.m. with "The AEC Countdown to Tip-Off" on Mountain Sports 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and cneagles.com/live.
