VIDEO: Braelyn Wykle Interview post UVA Wise

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the fifth time in her career, Braelyn Wykle was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week after a remarkable shooting week, as announced earlier today.

She ears Carson-Newman's first player of the week honor this season. C-N's last four TSWA Player of the Week honors have all gone to Wykle.

In a pair of road games against UVA Wise and Limestone, Wykle averaged 32.5 points per game on a ridiculous 71.8% shooting from the field and 58.8% from beyond the arc. She was a perfect 9 for 9 from the charity stripe and added five rebounds and three steals for the week.

Wykle went for a season-high 37 points in a 15-point road win last Wednesday against UVA Wise, where she made 13 of her 15 shots in 35 minutes on the floor. She made her first ten shots of the game. For the sixth time in her career, the graduate student tied the single-game record for three-pointers made with seven in just nine attempts.

Despite a two-point road loss last Saturday to Limestone, Wykle did her part by scoring 28 points on ten for 17 shooting and nailed three triples.

She is third in the conference in scoring this season, averaging 18.6 points per game. She is second in the league in three-pointers made and fourth with a 39.2 shooting mark from deep.

In the month of February, Wykle has been exceptional for C-N. She has averaged 21 points in seven games and is shooting 49% from the field and 42% from three-point range, both highs for any month this season.

Already becoming the program's leader for career points, three-point field goals and games played, the Greeneville native is closing in on the program's single-season record for three-pointers made. She has made 80 triples this year and is four away from breaking Kailyn Brooks' record that was set during the 2016-17 season. Wykle has 20 games this season with multiple three point makes.

The guard continues to climb the DII scoring list. With 2,634 career points scored, Wykle is just three points away from moving into seventh place and 12 from moving into sixth. Her 343 three-pointers has her 14th all-time and eleven away from moving into the top ten.

Among all active DII players, Wykle has the most career points, three-pointers and field goals made. Across all three levels, she ranks fifth among active players in career points.

Wykle and the Lady Eagles return to the hardwood for Senior Day tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. against Mars Hill. Broadcast coverage airs on Mountain Talk 106.3 FM and online at cneagles.com/live starting at 1:45 p.m. with "The AEC Countdown to Tip-Off" courtesy of the Eagle Sports Network.
