Wykle gathers another All-Region honor

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – For the fifth consecutive season, Braelyn Wykle earned a regional honor by being named to the 2023-24 Division II Conference Commissioners Association first-team All-Southeast Region Thursday afternoon.

Wykle has been named to the all-region team all five years and is a first-team selection for the third year in a row.

The Greeneville, Tenn. Native has scored in double-figures 26 times and 13 games with 20 points or more. She is averaging 18.7 points per game on 44/40/89 splits. That scoring average is 20th best nationally.

She is up to 2,711 points in her career and ranks sixth all-time on the DII women's basketball scoring list. Her 361 career three-pointers are tenth-most all-time. Those numbers rank second most in SAC history as well.

At the end of the regular season, the graduate student reset the school's single-season and single-game record for three-pointers made. She made 13 three-point baskets for a career-high 45 points in a 34-point win in the regular season finale over Mars Hill. Her fourth three-pointer of the game broke the single-season mark for three-pointers set by Kailyn Brooks during the 2016-17 season. Wykle leads the country in three-point field goals this season with 98.

Among active players, Wykle has the most career points (2,711), field goals made (54) and three-point field goals (361).

The program's all-leading scorer has made her last 23 free throw attempts, three-shy of the most she's made consecutively in her career and seven more makes away from setting the school record set by Vickee Kazee during the 1981-82 season. This season, Wykle has made 89% of her free throws, two% higher than her career average.

Wykle has started all 142 games she has played in, the most in school and SAC history.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Southeast Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region teams. The process concludes with All- American selections announced later in the month.

Wykle leads the number two-seeded Lady Eagles into the opening round of the NCAA Tournament tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against seven seed Augusta. Broadcast coverage airs on the Eagle Sports Network starting at 2:15 for "The Appalachian Electric Cooperative Countdown to Tip-Off" on Mountain Sports 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) with an audio stream available on cneagles.com/live for free.
