Five-over day sends Cummins into tie for 26th at South Regional

Day Two Results

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – A second round of 77 pushed Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) down 11 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 26th through 36 holes at the NCAA Division II Women's South Regional on Tuesday at the Cleveland Country Club.

The freshman was two shots higher than her opening round 75, moving her total to an eight-over 152. She is now 10 shots back of the lead.

"Maeve struggled with ball striking today; she was not as crisp as yesterday," Carson-Newman coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "I believe she was trying to force it a bit, but that's a learning curve for her.

"Fairway hit percentage was still up at 79 percent, but greens in regulation were probably a season-low of only 42 percent. Putts were the same so, again, we need to see a really good round for her to move on. Maeve is definitely capable of that so I'm still positive.

Cummins was on par for six holes through the front nine but a trio of bogeys in a four-hole span pushed her to three-over at the turn. She bogeyed holes 12 and 13 before carding her only birdie of the day on the par-5 14th hole. She followed that with another bogey to go five-over for the day.

Of her six bogeys on the day, five were exclusively on par-4 holes.

Saint Leo's Isabel Nesteus moved four-spots up into a tie for first with Lynn's Helen Kreuzer at two-under for the tournament. Kreuzer had the best day of anyone with a three-under performance. One shot behind the leading duo is Limestone's Pilar Martinez at one-under with a 143 total.

No. 8 Lynn made a five-spot jump on the leaderboard to lead with a 15-over total of 591. It was 11 shots better on Tuesday with a 290. Saint Leo stayed in second with an 11-over day while Limestone also used a 299 day to sit in third.

Wednesday brings one final round of play to determine which teams and individuals move on. Cummins will begin her day at 9:20 a.m. Live scoring will once again be available through Golfstat.
