Eagles hold steady at No. 14 in the South Regional rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – For a third-straight week, No. 25/25 Carson-Newman finds itself in the South Region rankings, holding down the No. 14 spot for back-to-back weeks.

These official rankings will help build the entire field for the Super Regional tournament scheduled for May 6-8 from the Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Tenn., hosted by Lee University out of the Gulf South Conference.

Teams that win their respective conference championship with receive automatic bids into each regional tournament. For each regional, the top-12 teams will play along with six individuals who are not on the teams included. From there, the top three teams and individuals in each regional tournament will garner a spot in the national championship.

Carson-Newman, ranked 25th in both of the Golfstat poll and Women's Golf Coaches' Association polls, sat at 13th in the initial rankings released at the beginning of April, its first appearance in the rankings since 2011 when it played in the regional tournament as an eight-seed.

The Eagles' fourth-place finish at the SAC Championship came on a 923 total at 59-over par. The week was highlighted by Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) winning the top medalist crown, giving her the second win of her career. The SAC Freshman of the Year's three-over total of 219 tied for the third-lowest 54-hole score in conference history.

The Eagles are one of three SAC teams to land in the regional rankings with Anderson moving down one spot from last week to No. 12 and Lenoir-Rhyne entering the list at No. 13.

Reigning region champion Barry, also the top team in Golfstat poll and No. 2 in the WGCA, leads the South with No. 4/3 Nova Southeastern and No. 7/8 Lynn rounding out the top three in second and third, respectively.

With the season over, C-N awaits its NCAA South Regional fate. The regional field will be announced on April 29th at 3 p.m. on ncaa.com.
