Eagles Put Forth Solid Effort on Day One of The Spring Kickoff

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fl. – The Carson-Newman women's golf team put together an impressive showing in the first 36 holes of The Spring Kickoff, sitting in third place, shooting 36-over as a team.

"There was a lot of great stuff out there today," head coach Jessica Shepley said. "We struggled a little with one section of the course, but after a good team meeting and walk-through, we're ready for tomorrow."

The Eagles were led by Ida Petersen and Caroline Nemes on day one, both tied for 12th  through the first two rounds. Petersen and Nemes put together identical performances, shooting a 73 in round one and a 77 in round two to finish the day at 6-over.

Returning to the course after winning the Music City Invitational to end the fall season, Hannah Holland put forth a solid effort on day one, finishing the afternoon tied for 29th. Holland saw a four-stroke improvement after shooting an 80 in the first round with a 76-stroke performance in round two to finish at 12-over.

Madison Cline also settled in after round one, following an 81 in the first 18 holes with a 77 in round two, finishing the day tied for 29th at 14-over. Rounding out the Eagles was Emery Fisher, shooting a 77 in the first round, followed by an 83 in the final 18 holes of the day. Fisher sits tied for 46th after day one at 16-over.

The Eagles will look to build on a solid first day of the spring season, rounding out The Spring Kickoff with the final 18 holes, starting at 9 AM on Tuesday.
