Charlotte, N.C. – Carson-Newman senior swimmer Margaret Stansberry was named the Bluegrass Mountain Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the conference today.
The Knoxville, Tennessee native totaled two first-place finishes at the 2017 NSU Shark Invitational over the weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Stansberry held the best time in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.62, which was the third-fastest time in the country. She also collected her second individual event win in the invitational in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.85.
"It was a really good atmosphere and there was a lot of support from my team which always helps in those situations," Stansberry mentioned.
The senior Stansberry also played a part in three C-N victories in relay events throughout the three session, two-day invitational.
She was one of the members of the relay teams that won the 400-yard medley, the 200-yard medley, and the 400-yard freestyle. The lone relay event in which the women's team failed to win over the course of the weekend was the 200-yard freestyle in which they claimed second-place.
"The atmosphere for the relays are always really hyped up with your whole team behind you," Stansberry added. "It's definitely a goal to go in a beat up the competition. There was weeks of preparation coming into meets like this one. There are a lot of different things we work on, but for me its a lot of pace work and that helps me hit the paces that I plan to do in the races."
