AMERSFOORT, Holland – Carson-Newman junior swimmer Lisa Posta wrapped up an incredible weekend in her home country after competing in the Dutch National Championships.
The Leiden, Holland native competed in both the 100 and 50 freestyle, with the latter coming as an all-American for the Eagles.
Postma went into Friday's competition with a previous best time in the 100 free at 59.79, which she set earlier during summer. Postma went into the championships ranked 36th, and finished with a time of 59.29 seconds that set a new lifetime best time jumping 15 places to finish 21st, just outside of the top-16 needed to earn a spot in the finals.
A day later, Postma raced in the 50 free with her best time sitting at 27.29 seconds, another mark that came earlier this summer. After the preliminary swim, she was ranked 12th with a new best time of 27.12 and qualified for her first-ever national championship final in Holland.
In the finals, she held her position of 12th just missing the lifetime best time at 27.17.
"I'm really pleased to have swam best times this summer and make my first national final," Postma stated. I am currently doing an internship for physical therapy and haven't been able to practice as much as I would like, so considering the preparation I am is delighted with the results and the experience I had here at nationals."
Postma comes off her junior year with the aforementioned all-America swim in the 50 freestyle, as well as another two all-America swims as a part of the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.
"It's great to see what we are doing here at Carson-Newman enables our athletes to continue to make waves on a national level and in one of the most competitive sprint swimming countries like Holland," Coach Jordan Taylor added. "Our team has had an amazing season and continued success like this in the summer really sets up well for next season. I am proud of everything Lisa has achieved and her senior year is going to be exciting to watch!"
