Lincoln Memorial tops Lady Eagles in four sets

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles dropped their 2011 South Atlantic Conference road debut, 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-19), at Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday evening.

LMU improves to 7-2 with the win and 3-1 in SAC play, while C-N falls to 5-5 overall and 0-4 in league play.

C-N took game one 25-21. The Lady Eagles reeled off four-straight points to take a 17-12 lead past the midway point in the set. Senior Nikki James (Cookeville, Tenn.) had two kills and a block in the set, while C-N took advantage of six LMU errors.

LMU would grab the second game, scoring three straight points in a one-point match at 21-20. Freshman Lauren Santarelli (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had four kills in the set to lead C-N.

The Railsplitters controlled the final two sets, winning the third set 25-14 as C-N hit only .088. They were able to make a 5-0 lead out of the gate in the fourth set stand up.

Santerelli led the Lady Eagles with eight kills. James added five blocks.

Sophomore Courtney Lawson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) had 17 assists, while freshman Blair Fields (Bluff City, Tenn.) added 22 digs.

Carson-Newman returns to action this weekend with a pair of road matches. The Lady Eagles face Anderson (S.C.) on Friday night and Newberry on Saturday.
