Lady Eagles split Saturday matches at Beach Bash; Top Shepherd, 3-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Senior Carly Swisher had 15 kills as Carson-Newman wore down Shepherd University, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Pepsi Beach Bash.

The Lady Eagles, with the 3-1 (30-28, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18) win, improve to 12-7 overall.

Carson-Newman hit .550 as a team in a tight first set to take a 1-0 lead in the match. It rallied from an 14-11 deficit early in the game to get the win.

C-N would seize control of the match in the third game, reeling off an 11-1 run to break open a 12-12 tie and take a 2-1 games to one lead.

Swisher hit at .500 for the match, finishing with 15 kills and one error in 28 attacks. She also had five blocks.

Freshman Rachel Harper added seven kills and hit .600 in the win.

Setter Kristen Pickett led the Lady Eagles with 16 assist and 12 digs, while Nikki James added four of C-N 11 blocks.  

C-N lost to Seton Hill earlier on Saturday morning, 3-0.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Tuesday evening in Holt Fieldhouse against Lincoln Memorial. The match begins at 6:30 p.m.
