JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman has been listed as one of ten teams under consideration in the NCAA's initial Southeast Region poll.
Carson-Newman (16-6, 12-2 SAC) was listed as one of the ten teams the NCAA office is considering for admission to the NCAA Tournament in December. Among the other teams listed are fellow South Atlantic Conference schools Wingate, Lincoln Memorial, Lenoir-Rhyne, and Anderson (S.C.).
Other teams highlighting the list are some of Carson-Newman's non-conference opponents from this season, including USC Aiken, Lander, and Augusta.
Flagler and Emmanuel (Ga.) are the only two programs to make the NCAA's under-consideration list that are not on Carson-Newman's schedule.
Next Wednesday, the NCAA will release its first of two rankings from 1 to 10, with the top eight teams listed getting into the national tournament. In the Southeast, the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas get automatic bids for the winners of each conference, with the remaining five spots being at-large.
Carson-Newman missed out on the 2023 NCAA Tournament after going 14-17. The Eagles last made the tournament in 2022 as the No. 3 seed, but they were bounced in the first round by Flagler.
Carson-Newman last won an NCAA Tournament game in 2019. As the No. 3 seed, it won the Southeast Regional Tournament and reached the national quarterfinals for the second time in program history.
The Eagles still have business to take care of before Selection Monday with four matches left to play in the regular season, including a heavy-hitting matchup on Wednesday night against Mars Hill and the SAC Tournament looming overhead the week before Thanksgiving.
