Eagles Picked Seventh in Final Poll Before Selection Show
Carson-Newman has been ranked seventh in the most recent NCAA Southeast Region poll.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman has been ranked seventh in the most recent NCAA Southeast Region poll.
The Eagles moved up one spot from last week despite falling in the regular season finale to Anderson and the SAC quarterfinal against Mars Hill.
South Atlantic Conference schools Wingate, Anderson, Lenoir-Rhyne, and Tusculum also appear on the list, ranked first, sixth, eighth, and tenth, respectively.
The top eight ranked teams from each region are entered into the field of 64. In the southeast region, three conferences (South Atlantic, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas) receive automatic bids for the tournament. The conference champion earns the auto-bid, while the remaining five spots are at-large selections.
The top-ranked Southeast team from Conference Carolinas, Emmanuel, is outside the top eight, which means that if the tournament started today, it would push out the current eighth-ranked team, Lenoir-Rhyne.
If the NCAA Selection Show were today, Carson-Newman would earn the seventh seed, facing off against Lander in the first round in Wingate, N.C., the likely host of the regional tournament. The Eagles will discover their fate next Monday when the NCAA announces the official tournament bracket.
Carson-Newman last made the NCAA Tournament in 2022, when it fell in the first round as the third seed to Flagler.
