Men picked third, women picked fourth in SAC Indoor Preseason polls

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Carson-Newman track and field ranked third and fourth in the 2023-24 South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Preseason polls this afternoon, Dec. 4. 

The 2023-24 Indoor Track & Field season is officially underway, and Carson-Newman track and field was voted third and fourth in preseason polls. The men ranked third in the voting with 120 points behind No. 1 Wingate (143 points) and No. 2 Lenoir-Rhyne (133 points). The top-three teams in the 2023-24 SAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Preseason Poll mimic the results of the 2023 SAC Indoor Championships exactly. Following C-N in the polls was Catawba in the four-spot, Limestone in fifth, and Anderson at No. 6. Tusculum placed seventh while Newberry, Emory & Henry, and Lincoln Memorial rounded out the top-10 in the poll. 

The Eagles also had two Men's Indoor Athletes to Watch. Oluwafemi Richards and Dawson Jones were listed on the 2023-24 indoor season watch list. 

The women's team grabbed fourth in the 2023-24 SAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Preseason Poll. The Eagles earned 112 points in the poll, following Wingate with 143 points, Lenoir-Rhyne with 130 points, and Catawba with with 120 points. Like the men, the results of the poll were similar to the standings of last indoor season after the SAC Indoor Championships. Anderson rounded out the top-5 for the women's poll. Limestone, Newberry, Lincoln Memorial, Tusculum, and Mars Hill finished fifth through 10th respectively. 

Both Kadidja Sangare and Sade De Sousa were listed on the Women's Indoor Athletes to Watch list for the upcoming season. De Sousa became an All-American at last year's 2023 NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships. She finished fifth in the nation in the 60-meter dash in 7.37 seconds. De Sousa set a new personal record with her performance and a new program record for Carson-Newman track and field. Sangare secured her second team All-American honors after placing eleventh in the women's long jump. Her 5.83-meter leap made her the first female long jump All-American in Carson-Newman track and field history.
