Eagles finish strong at Catamount Classic

CULLOWHEE, N.C.- Carson-Newman track and field left the final day of the Catamount Classic with personal bests and top-10 finishes this afternoon, April 20.

"It was a very good day for our distance group," head track and field coach David Needs said. "I'm so proud of how each one of them found ways to contribute to the team".

Jenna Pittman ran a personal best time in the women's 800-meter run. Pittman finished the race in 2:23.04 to grab 18th. Teammate Nicole Griffith finished 35th with a new personal record of 2:37.55, and Steffi Johnson grabbed 36th in 2:53.47. Colton Lee ran a personal best in the men's 800 in 1:58.76. Lee grabbed 19th in the event.

"It's great to have consistent performances from Colten and Jenna," Needs said. "Race after race, they only get better".

In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Raymond Brugmans finished 10th with a new personal best time of 57.80.

"Athletes like Ray and McKenna who have done events like the 400 hurdles and the steeplechase are the kind of teammates that will find ways to compete and score at a conference meet," Needs said. "Those are the type of athletes we need on our team, and we appreciate them so much".

McKenna Spaulding placed fifth in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:41.53.

"This is a really good group who represents the Eagles well," Needs said. "We are happy with the results this weekend".
