Kasmi grabs SAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Freshman sprinter Amine Kasmi earned South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week laurels yesterday afternoon, Jan. 23, for his performance at the Vanderbilt Invitational last weekend.

Kasmi competed with Carson-Newman track and field for the first time at last weekend's Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. He grabbed gold in the men's 200-meter dash in 21.49 seconds, marking the 10th fastest time in NCAA Division II.

"One of the things we were able to do at Vanderbilt was compete against the best in the country," head track and field coach David Needs said. "For Amine to win the 200 when you have SEC-quality opponents and great SAC schools, was a great thing for him, and the meet was an awesome opportunity for our whole team".

Kasmi also ran the fastest 200 time in the SAC so far this season with his performance, earning an NCAA DII qualifying time in the event.

Kasmi and the rest of Carson-Newman track and field will be back in action this weekend at the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va. Stay up to date on cneagles.com.
